DON’T PANIC. The Guide To The Current Situation In The Cryptogalaxy

DON’T PANIC. The Guide To The Current Situation In The Cryptogalaxy
In the last month, the world markets are experiencing dramatic events. In light of the coronavirus pandemic, an economic crisis is unfolding in the world. Because of quarantine actions across the world, many manufactures and non-food stores are being closed, the level of product turnover is falling. Small and medium-sized businesses suffer huge losses due to downtime, the unemployment rate increases and the purchasing power, in the opposite, decreases.
The value of the CBOE VIX index, reflecting the level of market volatility, increased the value to 82 points, for comparison, during the 2008 crisis, this index did not exceed 80 points, and in recent years it has been held at the level of 15-25 with peaks up to 45. Against the background of total panic among investors, on March 30, Brent crude updated the minimum of November 2002, falling to the level of $22.6 per barrel. The S&P, Dow Jones and Nikkei indexes are critically losing their positions. Experts note that the downward trend began even before the announcement of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the spread of the disease played a crucial role in the crisis increase.

At the same time, digital assets also found themselves in a zone of turbulence: in the middle of the month, the price of bitcoin fell to $3800, followed by the price of altcoins. Panic sale leads to a chain reaction, many investors are getting rid of the cryptocurrency which is considered a risky investment, and the price of coins continues to decline.
The cryptocurrency market highly depends on what is happening in the world, so it will strengthen and continue to grow only when the situation with the pandemic becomes clear and less unpredictable. Therefore, the main task at this stage is to maintain composure and don’t give in to emotions when making decisions.
Despite the extremely uncertain situation, most analysts now give fairly favorable forecasts. Judging by the latest fluctuations in the exchange rate, the cryptocurrency market has come out of an uncontrolled fall. In their opinion, we expect a long flat with a slow trend of price growth against the background of halving. Despite bearish trends and skidding at $6,500, at the close of the quarter, bitcoin was able to hold above the important support level of $6,400. Michaël van de Poppe, a cryptanalyst of the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, believes that now bitcoin is in the stage of consolidation and will gradually pay off in the next 4-6 years. Tuur Demeester, analyst and founder of Adamant Capital, suggests that holding the $6,300 level could be a key resistance level before the bull market can resume.
Similar dynamics are predicted for altcoins, which maintain a high correlation with the first cryptocurrency.

Also, experts in cryptocurrency research believe that the current situation in the oil and stock markets can have a positive impact on digital currencies. WTI oil, like Brent, fell to the level of 2002, trading around $20 mark. Black gold continues to look very vulnerable as well as the prospects for the oil market in general.
At the end of the first quarter of 2020, the bitcoin exchange rate decreased by 13%, but in comparison with traditional stock markets, the first cryptocurrency showed more successful results. The S&P 500 index, which includes shares of the 500 largest companies by capitalization, fell 19% to 2,584 points. This is the worst figure since 1938. President Trump’s proposal to allocate $2.2 trillion to support the American economy is criticized by many economists as leading to more problems than offering a real solution. They consider hyperinflation as the most likely scenario for the next year.
Since cryptocurrencies are not subject to inflation and are not in control of governments and banks, many predict that digital assets will be popular as a tool for hedging risks.
Earlier co-founder and CEO of Gemini exchange Tyler Winklevoss stated in his twitter:
https://preview.redd.it/xc61jsazlls41.png?width=768&format=png&auto=webp&s=06084bd6d511f93da4c485cd7eb3281566f2c4cc
The founder, head and CEO of the Galaxy Digital, Michael Novogratz, also believes that cryptocurrencies with mathematically limited emission could be a safe haven in the face of inflation.

Peter Brandt called the current crisis a “perfect storm” and noted that it could be a crucial period for Bitcoin. It is at this point that the coin can reveal itself as a protective asset and grow in price. In his tweet of March 23, he also advises treating cryptocurrencies as insurance policies rather than investments.
Trading volume on 22 popular crypto exchanges increased by 61% in the first quarter compared to the previous one — to $154 billion.
In March, major cryptocurrency exchanges recorded a sharp increase in the number of new users. Pierre Richard strategist of the Kraken exchange believes that people who are concerned about the futile efforts of the authorities to contain the crisis against the background of the pandemic feel the need to leave the centralized financial system.
With other positive aspects, we should not forget that cryptocurrencies remain extremely susceptible to manipulation by major players. That collapse, which we experienced in the middle of the month, allowed corporations to buy coins at an extremely low price and, in fact, nothing can prevent them from attacking the market in the future.
Whatever happens on the market, you can always exchange coins at StealthEX as we always have unlimited exchanges without requesting personal data. A large number of currencies available for exchange will allow you to create your investment portfolio in the most suitable way for you.

What Will the Halving Do with the Bitcoin Price?

By now, bitcoin is a word that most of the people on this planet have heard before. It has transformed from being an exclusive innovation for a select group of people to sparking true revolutions in developing countries. One of the main factors of bitcoin being so special is the scarcity of the asset. There can only be 21 million bitcoins to ever be mined. The protocol is built in a way that every 210,000 blocks the reward for mining bitcoin is cut in half. In practice, this happens approximately every four years. At this point, the mining rewards sit at 12.5 bitcoin per block that is mined. The upcoming bitcoin halving is expected to occur around the 12th of May this year when the mining reward will be reduced to 6.25 bitcoin per block. What does that mean for the future of bitcoin and how will this affect the price? Let’s look at a few factors and analyze the possible outcomes.
Increased scarcity
One clear fact is increased scarcity. Right now, there are around 980 bitcoins that are produced every single day. When that number is cut in half, it becomes more unique to own bitcoin as the asset becomes more scarce. This is one of the main reasons people compare bitcoin to gold. Whenever it becomes evident the gold supply is running low and there’s less available in the ground than before, gold becomes more scarce and the interest grows. It’s embedded within human nature to react to scarcity and feel the urge to possess the scarce asset. We’ve seen it happen before with gold and possibly the same will happen with bitcoin. After the bitcoin halving, it will become more difficult to own bitcoin. It will play into the fear of missing out (FOMO), which plays a big role in the cryptocurrency industry.
Increase in mining costs
Another factor that should not be underestimated is the increase in costs for mining bitcoin. With the current reward for mining, the bitcoin price should be above roughly $4,000 to break even for miners. Anything above that would mean the miners make a profit in comparison to the costs of mining. Note that a mining operation requires large initial investments with hardware, electricity costs, and logistics. When the mining reward is cut in half, it will become more expensive for new and existing miners to achieve profitability. This will incentivize the miners to pump up the price to higher levels in order to make a profit. It’s in everyone’s interest to have enough people mining bitcoin to keep the network stable, so a higher price to keep all the miners on board would be a win-win for anyone. Of course, this does not refer to the individual with a mining rig in their garage box, it concerns the large mining pools that can be seen in the graph above. Those parties that collaboratively control a major part of the bitcoin network. They have enough influence to impact the bitcoin price as well.
History repeats
There have been two Bitcoin halvings before the one that is just around the corner. When you look at the chart above, we could just see history repeat itself. History shows that especially in the months gearing up towards the halving, the price is slowly increasing. After that, the price remains stagnant for a couple of months to then grow even further. Right now, we’ve seen prices slowly move up again after the lowest point of around $3,500 last year.
What are the experts saying?
We can draw a few scenarios that we see happening surrounding the bitcoin halving, but before we do this, we would like to have a look at what the experts are saying.
Anthony Pompliano, the co-founder of Morgan Creek Digital and a prominent figure in the industry, shared the following in an interview: “The halving will be a big moment for Bitcoin. I don’t think that the price will shoot up the day after it, but I do think that from the day we are right now, we will see Bitcoin’s price at $100,000 by December 2021.”
Another prediction comes from the Winklevoss twins, two prominent figures in the industry that are known for being the founders of Gemini and being the original founders of what we now know as Facebook. “The halvening in May will be big for bitcoin“, Cameron Winklevoss said. “It’s rarely priced in”. They do not call for a specific price to aim for, but they are convinced we are bound for another spike in price with the upcoming halving.
To conclude
We are no fortune tellers and we do not want to create any illusions here, but the bitcoin halving is an important factor in the crypto sphere as a whole. The entire industry has been discussing it for the past couple of months and will have been doing so for the upcoming months. If the bitcoin halving already had its impact on the bitcoin price is something we can only tell in a couple of months. One thing is for sure: bitcoin will become more scarce. So, if you have the opportunity to do so, now is your time to benefit from the period with the current mining reward. The future is looking bright for bitcoin, are you joining that future?

Hello! Some of you may know me from the Daily Discussion thread here. I am an enthusiastic supporter of Bitcoin and also the author of Hopium Time (formerly Daily Hopium). Hopium Time is my effort to improve morale of the Bitcoin community during the dark times of current bear market we've been enduring. In my posts I make an effort to post good news and show parallels to previous Bitcoin bear markets to provide perspective when things look bleak.

I also like to make predictions. My core prediction is as follows:

The price of ONE BITCOIN will surpass $100,000 USD before May 1, 2021.

To illustrate my conviction on this prediction and to help my favorite charity, The Independence Fund, I have made it into a Bet. I’m calling it my Bitcoin Bet for the Vets (BBV). Please take a look at my post on this. I would really like this to grow into a nice donation to the charity which is very helpful to Veterans and their families. Hopefully some of you guys will pledge to match my Bet.

7/21/18 Revision to bet matching:

I will allow someone who pledges to match my bet to decide what percentage of my donation they will match (minimum of 5%). Please reply directly to the bet thread to make your honor bound irrevocable commitment to donate with me on May 1, 2021. I will include you on my public list of donors. Also, while I have pledged to donate enough to buy one track chair for the Vets even if I win the bet, you as a bet matcher, will be encouraged to do the same, but it is not required.

I will attempt to contact some of the leading Bitcoin bulls in the media (John McAfee, Tom Lee, Tim Draper etc.) and let you know in this thread if they plan to participate in my Bet or not. So you may want to check back on this thread from time to time for a status update.

Imagine the good we could do together if more people got involved. We can show the world how generous the crypto community can be. Good for the Vets and good for bitcoin. Everybody wins!

Hopium Time and my Bitcoin Bet for the Vets (to support The Independence Fund charity for our wounded heroes).

Take me directly to the official BITCOIN BET FOR THE VETS pledge page - (Bet thread is Now Archived - scroll down - you can make your pledge in this this thread instead).

In my posts I make an effort to post good news and show parallels to previous Bitcoin bear markets to provide perspective when things look bleak (Edit 5/11/19: Not looking bleak anymore. Time for a bull market! ).

I also like to make predictions. My core prediction is as follows:

The price of ONE BITCOIN will surpass $100,000 USD before May 1, 2021.

To illustrate my conviction on this prediction and to help my favorite charity, The Independence Fund, on July 16, 2018, I made it into a Bet. I call it my Bitcoin Bet for the Vets (BBV). Please take a look at my post (Now archived) on this. I would really like this to grow into a nice donation to the charity which is very helpful to Veterans and their families. Hopefully some of you guys will pledge to match my Bet. You can respond with your official bet pledge right in this thread (since my old thread has been archived).

Unfortunately, so far my efforts to contact some of the leading Bitcoin bulls in the media (John McAfee, Tom Lee, Tim Draper etc.) have mostly failed. Only Tom Lee responded that “If this is for the Vets, I’m in”.

Imagine the good we could do together if more people got involved. We can show the world how generous the crypto community can be. Good for the Vets and good for bitcoin. Everybody wins! Thanks for reading this.

Which crypto do you think will "moon" next?

I've never been into bitcoin or any other crypto in the past.
I've heard about it for years, how some people had bitcoins many years ago and suddenly found themselves rich, but I thought that ship had already sailed and I was late to the party.
Then mid-February, I heard about the Winklevoss bitcoin ETF. Billions if not trillions of Wall Street money was supposed to pour into bitcoin if it was approved, and bitcoin's market cap skyrocketing was supposed to boost it from 900 to 2500-3000, even supposedly up to 10,000.
Some backstory: I have a windfall. But it is only 10 years of annual expenses worth, not enough to retire on.
But I thought this was a golden opportunity. I threw in around a hundred thousand dollars into bitcoin, hoping that the ETF would get approved and it would push me into financial independence (FIRE status with 4% SWR), and I could retire.
During that time, I also read about Ethereum. It sounded promising... "programmable bitcoin", and Microsoft and some other big names were forming an alliance based on it. I thought it definitely had potential.
But I saw the price ($13) and looked at the charts, it seemed to have been at that price point for quite a long time, seems there was no need to rush. I'll join that party AFTER the ETF decision comes out. It couldn't change a lot within a week or two, right?
And March 11 came around, and the ETF was rejected. Annoying, but I was surprised how bitcoin's price didn't tank straight down to 800 like some were predicting. It actually kept rising. And I was being indoctrinated to the "HODL" mentality of /bitcoin, so I HODL'd.
Then I remembered about ETH, a few days later. Why not check on it, how is the price doing?
And... WTF! It had ballooned to 28. I could have more than DOUBLED my money D:
But I thought, this is TOO FAST, this has got to be a bubble... it's gotta pop soon, and waited.
And it rose straight to 45! More that TRIPLED! If I had invested in ETH instead a few weeks ago, I'd be RETIRED now! It seriously hurts.
And I jumped in ETH at 45... and now it's barely moving, looks like it's even dipping....
So now I'm looking at other crypto, what do you think has the potential to moon like ETH did recently?
Monero? Dash?
I was even looking at Golem... it seemed really cheap, but then 820 million in circulation? o_O And apparently, anyone can create these "Ethereum-based tokens"?
Learning a lot of cryptocoins is hard, I can only take in so much information... so I'd like to know, what coins do you think have REAL potential?

40 Bitcoin Predictions: What I got right, what I got wrong, and ones for the future

I think you all might be interested in reading about Bitcoin predictions - and hopefully sharing some of your own - so I've posted the intro + the 4 predictions that are viewable at no cost. And if you're enticed enough, the following 36 can be viewed on Yours.org for a measly $1.25. Hope you find them interesting.
https://www.yours.org/content/40-bitcoin-predictions--what-i-got-right--what-i-got-wrong--and-ones-f-ee169b2821c6
During the middle of 2013, I discovered Bitcoin as a result of what was going in the country of Cyprus, and let’s just say, I've been hooked ever since. Like most people, I've made many predictions over the course of Bitcoin’s history, and in this writing, I'm going to share as many as my memory allows. You should see some bonehead predictions, some spot-ons, and some that are too close to call. The predictions will go in chronological order, beginning with the initial predictions made in mid-2013, and ending with ones of the future. Four are viewable at no cost, and the remaining 36 can be viewed by unlocking the paywall for a cool, $1.25. And if you share one of your own in the comments section, I will gladly send $0.25 back in your direction. Hope you find the predictions interesting and the stories behind them equally as enjoyable. Now let’s get this show on the road.
Prediction #25: In the midst of another “China bans Bitcoin” episode, the bull market would NOT end.
Result: True. I was proud to get this one right, because at the time, a lot of people I knew were freaking out, thinking this was the end. I stood calm, knowing this storm would pass, knowing sunny days were just ahead. I knew this because the chart wasn’t going to end with Bitcoin topping out at $5,000. Not when we had just broken out over $3,000. Not without rising exponentially. And mostly, because we had experience with “China banning Bitcoin” back at the beginning of 2017. When it happened then, Bitcoin’s price fell, but it didn’t break. It recovered, and a few months later we proceeded to reach the high from 2013, which then launched us into the beginning of Bitcoin’s meteoric rise. It didn’t stop us then, and it wasn’t going to stop us now. I told my friends there wasn’t anything to worry about, and it would probably be a good time to buy if they had any extra cash lying around. China banning Bitcoin is never as scary as it seems.
Prediction #16: Vinny Lingham’s “Bitcoin to $1,000 by 2017” prediction was going to be accurate.
Result: True. Just as Vinny publicly predicted, the price of Bitcoin was $1,000 as 2017 began. Because of this prediction, he became known as the Bitcoin Oracle; but to me, he was somebody who knew how to read and interpret a chart’s pattern correctly and extrapolate the data from it. That may sound like a knock on the guy, but I hope you don’t take it like that. He’s a very intelligent and respectable person. I value his opinion, appreciate his Bitcoin contributions with Gyft, look forward to him making a difference in identity verification with Civic; and to be honest, it did take talent to make that prediction. But I watched The Matrix, so throwing “Oracle” around is something I don’t take very lightly. Haha, just kidding around. But anyways, based on the trend at the time, his prediction seemed accurate and I absolutely agreed with it.
Prediction #17: After the Winklevoss Bitcoin ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) was disapproved by the SEC, it was curtains for the price.
Result: DEAD Wrong. - And I’m so glad I was… But wow, this event put me through one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. I was so hyped up from it, tracking the price on a daily basis, watching industry news, writing articles; and then on the day the ETF was axed, my enthusiasm was gone, hopes were shattered, and I was in one of the worst moods I’ve ever had in my life. I didn’t know what to do, what to think, or where the market was going to go from there. 2013’s all-time high had already been breached – largely due to the ETF speculation – so I fully expected the ETF to be approved (wishful thinking). When this thought was put to rest, and because the run-up past 2013’s all-time high seemed to be the catalyst for the rise, I began to doubt whether the exponential rise would ever occur again. I fully expected the price to tank. Well, I was both right and wrong. For the first few days, it held strong, but after a few more, it started to drop. As it did, my emotions got the best of me and I ended up panic-selling some of my small stake like a worried little child. What a costly error that was…
Future Prediction #5: Central Banks will issue their own digital currencies.
Comments: And I say GOOD. Let them get their citizens accustomed to using digital currency. Let their centralized cryptocurrencies compete with decentralized cryptocurrencies. Governments and central banks are powerless to stop the best decentralized cryptocurrency(s), and they may temporarily “win” by disallowing trading or commerce to be conducted with them, but as the age of digital money makes its mark on the world, the best form(s) of money will win out in the end. The good ones will always be available as an alternative for the inevitable day when the central bank or government abuses their money-issuing rights. When they’ve gone too far and the citizens unite and stand up to them, the people will have a fair alternative to fall back on. Decentralized cryptocurrencies can, and will, keep governments in check - and you should consider that a prediction, too.

Daily Market Recap - 07/27 -

Daily Market Recap - 07/27 -
It was a predicted downtrend because traders are cashing out gains from the BTC and the altcoins green run. That plus the ETF bad news from the SEC crippled the crypto market today as the Bitcoin price dived below the support at $8k. Everywhere on the crypto sphere, people are attributing the downturn to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rejecting Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss’ proposed Bitcoin ETF for the second time.
In an interesting twist, a Tweet by a SEC commissioner is trending among the Bitcoin community and supporters after writing that the ruling hinders innovation and stops people from deciding for themselves whether or not they want to invest.
The initial Bitcoin ETF proposal from the Winklevoss brothers was passed earlier in 2017 and was turned down on March 10th. It remains to be seen whether another proposal might shift the SEC’s continued stance.
Spencer Bogart, a partner at Blockchain Capital noted when he talked about Bitcoin with panelists at CNBC:
“The cat’s already out of the bag. Innovation is going elsewhere if the SEC doesn’t get on board soon.”
It’s been a good week for both Bitcoin and the altcoins and it is a bit disappointing that the week is ending in reds because of this news. Of course, as predicted yesterday, this could simply be down to correction and we might see BTC back to $8k soon. The market capitalization lost more than $10 Billion as it shrunk from $303 Billion yesterday to today’s $291.8 Billion. The trade volume has not budged at $14 Billion.
After leading the markets and dominating the scene for almost 2 weeks, Bitcoin dropped at -3.45%. Currently, Bitcoin is trading at $7959 and down $300 on the day. Volume has marginally dropped to $4.9 Billion.
Looking at the 4-hour chart, the MACD is deep under the bear zone with a low volume. The green RSI is currently turned up but still below 40. The yellow SRSI is still in the oversold levels. The Money Flow Index is poised to go up and below 40. If there is a downward trend, the next support level is at $7850. Should it go up, the current resistance is back to $8200.

Note on the Flash Crash:
On August 18th the Bitcoin market experienced a flash crash on a number of exchanges, led by Bitfinex. It appears, according to swap data there was a number of large positions which closed in tandem causing a whipsaw effect, accelerated by market panic. Thankfully it does appear this was an isolated issue, and not a fundamental break down of the market. The price touched $160s on Bitfinex, and has since recovered to the $230 region, signaling this may have been entirely a result of an issue with an exchange or exchanges. We’ll know more in the coming days, but at this time we believe this to be the case. We’ve selected Bitstamp for our charts, as it did not have as drastic a reaction which can affect technical analysis.
Fundamental Analysis:
The entire setup of the market is clouded with bearish sentiment amplified the impacts of the BitLicense and the news of the first Bitcoin-XT Block being mined. Here is a review of what has happened fundamentally in the market over the past week and a half. On a global scale, the acceptance of Bitcoin in many countries has been on the rise as weaker economies are evidently turning to cryptocurrencies as their exit option, indicated by the increase in the trading volumes of Latin American Countries. The high inflation rate and unstable economy in countries like Argentina and Brazil have caused a massive surge in the trading volumes of Bitcoins in Latin America increasing more than 120%. This might be a reverberation from the increased number of newly registered users in Greece over the past few weeks which increased by 600%. In Europe, despite Germany’s recent negative press about Greek bailout, Berlin remains one of the major attractions for Venture Capitalists, with Bitcoin Startups and the overall ecosystem continuing to prosper. With more than $2.2 Billion invested in startups in Germany and a considerable percentage of them being Bitcoin startups, the future of cryptocurrency in Germany looks promising.
The surprise “one off depreciation” of the Yuan by the People’s Bank of China early in the week led to price divergences and limited bull runs in USD and CNY exchanges as people invested with Yuan saw the Bitcoin market as a good hedging opportunity. Adding to the already strengthening sentiment of growing Venture Capital investments in bitcoin, Japanese exchange ‘bitFlyer’ was able to raise $4 million for their next round of funding, despite the ripples caused by the arrest of Mark Karpeles, former CEO of Mt Gox earlier this month. Bitcoin got a boost from more traditional finance firm PricewaterhouseCooper’s which promoted the use of Bitcoin and Blockchain Technologies for its clients. The report stated categorically that Cryptocurrencies open the door for revolutionary technological possibilities and would disrupt the existing financial Industry in a positive way. With things going awry after the BitLicense debacle, the long awaited Gemini Exchange is a ray of hope for the residents of New York with the Winklevoss twins filing the paperwork for operating an exchange in New York in accordance with the new policies.
Edward Snowden’s statements about bitcoin, particularly saying that the technology is inherently flawed citing the ‘51 % mining attack’ as a structural weakness problem created negative sentiment in mainstream press. On the positive side, he added that the basic principles of systems based on decentralized tokenization models might continually provide more value to society. In the midst of the negative mainstream sentiment Bitcoin XT released their completed version of the software on the 15th of August. Unfortunately, many mainstream articles surfaced calling the first Bitcoin-XT block meaning Bitcoin has forked. On one hand it is a vote for the change in protocol, but the network, almost exclusively, continue to run on the core implementation. Predictions say the full switch could happen mid-2016, but the exaggerated news has had a short term impact on the mainstream perception of Bitcoin and potentially the market.
While things were already looking tight because of BitLicense, The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), has issued a new ruling stating startups seeking to tokenize commodities for Blockchain based trading have to be licensed in all the 50 states. On the heels of new regulation, SABR, a New York Based startup has just raised one million dollars to fulfill its goal of providing law enforcement with a view beneath the surface of multiple block chains. SABR aims to detect and prevent bitcoin and other digital currencies being used for illicit purposes. How these developments in regulation and security will help or harm the bitcoin community will be seen in due time.
Technical Analysis:
Long Term:
On a weekly scale, the market has been predominantly sideways with choppy moves from 255-271, until finally completing the bearish arc of the sideways swing by breaking the support zone around 250 and trading at 220 levels. The Bollinger bands in the weekly chart still remain parallel showing that the market is in the expected zone and judging by the regression lines, is setting up for a bull trend after consolidation. On a long term scale, taking a position right now for a long term trade would be premature as the sentiment in the market is not clear. The RSI is approaching the oversold region while the MACD just took a bearish turn without crossing the zero line. The proper indication for setting up long term trades would be reading the setup of the market in terms of 5 SMA and Bollinger bands. As soon as both Bollinger Bands and the 5 SMA become trending in the upward direction after significant consolidation, entering into trades with a long term plan is more justified. Proper entry points for such trades would be around the 217 region with stops below 214. If the market is trending, possible exit points could be 255, 271 and 317.
If the market breaks to the downside, breaking the support zone at 217, weekly lower Bollinger band and previous swing lows are possible targets.
Midterm:
If we look at the daily chart, the break of the zone of support around 250-255 signaled move in the market that has the run the price down to 221. The reversal was very quick with less volume, showing that the 217-220 zone is a good support zone which can be tested soon because of the still trending bearish setup in the daily chart. With the Bollinger bands and SMA’s pointing downwards, the setup is going to remain bearish for some time until a base of consolidation is formed. The descending triangle as shown in the daily chart between the downward trendline and support line at 217 might result in higher volumes being traded in the coming days. In which direction the break out would be or the setup would change will depend on how the market approaches the vertex of the triangle. The MACD is showing a bearish signal in the short term and the RSI crossed 30 into the oversold region but is now coming close to leaving the oversold region. In the medium term, it appears that it is going to be bearish/sideways for some time.
A trade setup shorting at the 5 SMA cross and looking for positions on the retracements was a good opportunity during the sell off.
Short term:
The market crashed by a huge percentage on Tuesday when the trading price of Bitcoin dropping to the 160s on some exchanges, although Bitstamp did not have as severe a reaction. Though it was immediately backed by a green retracement candle, the sentiment is predominantly bearish even in the 240 minute chart with little corrections. The market is expected to trade in this range for some time before either consolidating and going for a reversal or crashing down further. Some of the good trades in this range would be picking longs on the support level until the market closes in on the triangle as shown on the daily chart. Shorting around the lower Bollinger band, and 5 SMA with expectation of a crash down back to the 217 levels could also be profitable, although these trades have to be done with a tight stop loss.
Sentiment Analysis:
The overall sentiment of the market has continued bearish with BitLicense and “Bitcoin Forking” leading the way. However, the sentiment on the banking front is picking up speed with Visa deploying a block chain research team on the 12th August in Bangalore to study the possible applications of the Blockchain. Deutsche Bank has recently backed Blockchain Technology and bitcoins by making some positive statements about how bitcoins hold the key for the future of financial services. Another positive enforcer to the sentiment is Blockchain.info has exceeded 4 million users. With companies like BitX and ecoins making payment through bitcoins via debit cards infrastructure possible, further research to adapt bitcoin to the existing financial system and other applications seems more likely. Continued adoption by European merchants and an Indonesian crowd funding platform accepting bitcoins, gives hope that bitcoin is slowly gaining a grip on the traditional financial world. It’s still unsure about how the forking news will affect the price of Bitcoin. Major exchanges like Bitfinex have said the major exchanges will come together in agreement if a major shift happens, as there main concern is supporting as many customers as possible.
Developments in Blockchain:
The Blockchain is may play a key role in the Music Industry. Revelator builds software that allows artists and record labels to manage, track and market their music all from one application. The company sees the blockchain as an opportunity to simplify music rights, which remain complicated and difficult to verify, with a new Intellectual Property (IP) management system that will allow artists to register their works on an immutable ledger. They have partnered with Colu for this project.
On another front, ItBit has revealed details about the Bankchain project, a private consensus based ledger system aimed at providing enterprise financial solutions. With this, the New York based exchange has joined other Blockchain firms which are trying to seek the attention of banks that want to utilize the efficiencies of distributed Blockchain technology with private blockchains.
Technocorner:
The past week and a half has majorly been a week of innovation where ‘ecoin’ and ‘BitX’ have launched Hybrid debit cards. These debit cards are aimed to facilitate interchangeable payments in bitcoins or fiat currencies. ecoin plans to merge the bitcoin infrastructure with the existing financial climate, by taking a widely accepted form of payment like debit cards and combining it with Bitcoin to create a new Hybrid Cryptocurrency debit card. BitX is working on technology so users can also spend bitcoin offline without any internet connection. BitX and ZAZOO have announced this partnership that enable BitX users to use VCpay which works as an alternative for plastic cards.
Another interesting development is the BitcoinAlert Project, with the BitcoinAlert app that analyzes the prices historically and alerts about prices to buy or sell bitcoins. But the Technological development that trumped everything else this week would have to be ‘Filament’. Filament has raised $5 million in series A funding led by Bullpen capital, Verizon Ventures and Samsung Ventures. Filament is a decentralized IoT software stack that uses the bitcoin blockchain to enable devices to hold unique identities on a public ledger. By creating a smart device directory, Filament's IoT devices will be able to securely communicate, execute smart contracts and send microtransactions.
