[H] Bioshock: The Collection and Other Bundle Extras [W] Assassin's Creed: Origins

So, recently, my friend just gave me some extra games. I'm trying to trade a Bioshock: The Collection key and more if necessary for a AC:O key.

Beginner's Guide to Trading Crypto. Part 5

Talk The Trader Talk: A Journey Into The Realm Of Trader Slang

Slang is a natural evolution of a language under working conditions. Every industry has its own slang vocabulary, which may or may not be composed of morphologies of words directly related to the job. Sometimes situations related to the job may evolve or devolve into adjectives, verbs, nouns of even completely new words that reflect the object in question. To the uninitiated, such terms may sound like gibberish and could well resemble the talk of thugs that has been so vividly presented many times over in television series and movies.
Whether it is pidgin, slang, argot, or a dialect, industries have their own ways of expressing their ins and outs. For instance, the exhaust system of automobiles is often called the "puffer" among mechanics, a "fat finger" is a larger than intended trade among bankers, a "gat" is a weapon among street gangs, and "all day" is a life sentence among prisoners. The lists of slang terms are endless and are an extremely interesting read.

The Trader Lingo

To make sure that MoonTrader users get into the feel of what it is like to be part of the crypto market, we have compiled a comprehensive summary of some of the most widespread slang terms used by traders. Knowing these terms is an important part of working on an exchange, as understanding what traders are talking about is half the job of becoming one of them and being able to delve into the processes taking place. To talk the talk and walk the walk, traders must understand each other and, most importantly, shorten their speech into a mixture of phrases comprehensible only for the initiated and mystical to outsiders.
Babysitting: A slang term used by traders all over the world from Wall Street to the most obscure exchanges in Africa. The term means holding a trade that has been losing out for a while in hopes that it will gain in price, usually in vain. For example: “You’ve been babysitting that option for way too long, it’s a hopeless cause.”
Crunching: A situation in which a stock’s or asset’s price starts falling rapidly and has no support levels. For example: “The XXX stock is going down the drain. It’s crunching, leave it!”
Jig Out: This is a situation when the market makes a sudden turn for the worse and an investor or trader loses out as a result. For example: “The YYY stock jigged out on me today. Lost half a mil.”
Learning Curve: A fairy common expression meaning the amount of time and effort someone, such as a budding new trader, has to put into something to master the art and “learn the ropes”. For example: “The learning curve for Forex is pretty steep.”
Melt: Another fairly common expression that can be encountered in the world of finance, which signifies that a lot of money has been lost and an account has been depleted. For example: “My account melted through today after the market jigged me out on that nut.”
Nut: While nuts may be tasty as a snack or very useful for keeping things bound together with bolts, in trading a nut is the total amount of commissions that have to be paid for a certain trade. For example: “The nut on ZZZ is crazy these days.”
Permabull / Permabear: Since bullish markets are positive and bearish markets are sleepy, the traders working on such a market are called bulls or bears. There are some optimists who believe that such markets are always there. These traders are called permabulls. The opposite are permabears. For example: “Even if the market is dead and floating, he will still act like a permabull”.
https://preview.redd.it/rj90k43enfz31.jpg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86c9c63f1484cc49f683ae12159d03429f465341
Printing on the “O”: If we consider that O is an extreme abbreviation of the term “Override”, then the phrase means that the price of an asset is below the bid price and there is an urgent need to sell it. “XYZ is printing on the Os all day!”
ScalpeScalping: The idea of scalping is opening hundreds and thousands of small trades in a short amount of time in hopes of generating a large amount of small profits. Scalpers are traders who engage in scalping. For example: “He’s a heck of a scalper.”
Slippage: A common situation for inexperienced traders who lose on assets that are insoluble and cause losses due to higher or lower prices. For example: “He’s been slipping on ZZZ for three weeks in a row.”
Squiggly Lines: Technical analysis consists of graphs and indicators that traders use to make sense of market dynamics. The lines on graphs are never straight, which would mean that the market is comatose, thus they are called squiggly, or uneven lines. For example: “I’ve been staring at the squiggly lines all day and my eyes are popping out.”
Tank: A tank is not only a military machine or a container, but also a verb, which could either mean to fill something up, like a container or a stomach, and also a drop. In this case, tanking means a market collapse. For example: “The market’s tanking! All is lost! All is lost!”
Unicorn, Vulture, Whale: The trading terminology bestiary is full of terms that have gained animalistic form. A unicorn is a situation reminiscent of the mythical beast, when a startup has reached a $1 billion valuation. A vulture is a trader who preys on falling assets and buys them up in hopes that they will rise in the future. A whale is a holder of a large amount of capital or an asset.

Stick: The US dollar has a lot of synonyms from bucks and dough to aces and greenbacks. The stick is another synonym for the US currency used in trading. For example: “Made a K load of sticks today trading XYZ.”
Whack: A fairy straightforward term meaning that a trader has lost a fair amount of money. For example: “I got whacked trading ZZZ the other day.”
Bottom Fishing: There are traders and there are speculators. When a market has “tanked”, assets usually cost much lower and a certain breed of traders emerges who start buying up assets that have lost in value in hopes of selling them off at higher prices later. Such actions are called bottom fishing, or scooping up assets that have floated to the surface of a market like dead fish after a bomb goes off underwater. For example: “The market has sunk today and the sharks are bottom fishing.”
Choppiness: The market is never a calm place and its trials and tribulations are often compared to storms and waves. Since waves can be choppy, or rough in terms of the height of their crests, it is fair to compare market volatility to wavy seas. For example: “The choppiness of the market is not allowing institutional investors to enter with their capital.”
Dark Pools: There is always liquidity on the market that is hid away from average traders. Such liquidity is called a dark pool, which is usually in the hands of special groups. In essence, these are trading volumes created by orders placed by institutional investors. For example: “The dark pools are buying up Bitcoins real quick.”
Dead Cat Bounce or Rubber Band Effect: Since markets are unpredictable, it is often possible for markets to suddenly rebound after seeming dead for a long time. Such a situation is called a dead cat bounce, or a rubber band effect, which is quite figurative in itself. For example: “The market is preparing for a possible dead cat bounce after the recent wave of news.”
Hodl: A bastardization of the term Hold, misspelled by a drunk BitcoinTalk user, which simply means holding an asset in hopes that it will rise in price. For example: “Hodl Bitcoin! Hodl it!”
Short squeeze: There are situations when an asset suddenly rises in price and forces traders to close their positions. For example: “The holders were forced to short squeeze after the price of ZZZ suddenly spiked”.
Resistance Zone: In technical analysis, this is the area between the current support and resistance areas. Prices usually start resisting other prices in such areas and may start falling. For example: “The resistance area of $120 has been reached for ZZZ and we can expect a decline to areas of $100.”

Fallen Angel: Assets that may have reached price heaven are not guaranteed to stay there and it often happens that a highly valued asset has suddenly lost in price. Usually, this biblical analogy refers to high yielding bonds that once had investment grades. For example: “ZZZ has turned into a fallen angel after the US introduced sanctions against country YYY.”
Fat Tail: In statistics, such cases are called outliers and signify that a value has moved away from the mean and has gained a high degree of riskiness. For example: “ZZZ is showing fat tails and will soon reach non-investment levels.”
Flavor: Given the abundance of types of orders and assets on the market, traders often do not distinguish between them and simply call them different flavors. For example: “How about some ZZZ flavor?”
Hit The Bid: A rather straightforward expression meaning that someone has decided to sell an asset. For example: “The price just hit the low, so go and hit the bid”.
Odd Lot: A lot is usually considered to be a million dollars. An odd lot is anything under a million dollars. For example: “I sold that odd lot of ZZZ yesterday.”
Smoke And Mirrors: The poetic expression has made its way onto the market and means that a corporate entity is distorting the market image in hopes of attaining its own goals, usually to make an asset seem more attractive. For example: “The market is all smoke and mirrors after ZZZ flushed its stocks on.”
The list of trading slang terms is endless in its variety and the only way to fully immerse one’s self into it is trading actively and gaining experience. Years of work on any market in any industry will eventually saturate a participant’s mind with the necessary skills and terminology turn any greenhorn into a pro.

Dash Competitive Basket Index for Tuesday, 23 July, 2019. And some new metrics.

Dash Competitive Basket Index for Tuesday, 23 July, 2019. And some new metrics.
For the previous 7 day period:
  1. Dash outperformed 2 of the 14 coins ranked above us (14%). The 30 day SMA is 44%.
  2. Dash outperformed 2 of the 10 coins ranked below us (20%). The 30 day SMA is 43%.
  3. In total, Dash outperformed 4 of the top 24 coins (17%). The 30 day SMA is 44%.
  4. Bit coin dominance dropped 2/10ths to 65.0%. 21 of the top 24 coins beat Bitcoin (88%).
Dash starting to show some signs of life including beating Bitcoin today. Also note that the actual value and the objective “Fair Value” from https://www.coinfairvalue.com/coins/dash/ is diverging again. This suggests that Dash is getting more and more undervalued. Stated differently, likely to see an upward adjustment in price. The other dramatic change in trend is the number of the top 24 that beat Bitcoin jumped to 88%. We have enough of that data now to start publishing that graph.
In collaboration with Agnew Pickens, we will now publish a weekly pie chart that shows how much market cap each of the alts has. This won’t change very fast, so we will likely publish it weekly or monthly. I appreciate constructive criticism on all of the metrics I publish.
As always, this is not investment advise. Do your own homework. Don’t just trust the word of some random guy that goes by Solarguy. All crypto is risky. Don’t invest more in crypto than you can afford to lose.

^ Dash versus the 14 coins listed above us. Modest improvement.

^ Dash versus the 10 coins listed below us. Still alive, but nothing to write home about.

^ Dash versus the top 24 coin. Dead cat bounce, or the start of the real recovery. Another cliff hanger.

^ The first of two new graphs. This one shows what percentage of the top 24 coins outperformed Bitcoin. Clearly, the trend has changed since 17 July. Very likely good for Dash if this trend continues.

^ The second of the two new metrics. Dash is the purple slice. This pie chart shows how the various alt coins of interest control how much of the market cap. We exclude Bitcoin, because Bitcoin is not an alt. And we exclude the non-mineable coins, because they are generally not competitors to Dash. We do include EOS, since it is a direct competitor to Ethereum. I would appreciate feedback on this new metric. The idea originally came from Agnew.

Major Exchanges
In finance, an exchange is a forum or platform for trading commodities, derivatives, securities or other financial instruments. The principle concern of an exchange is to allow trading between parties to take place in a fair and legally compliant manner, as well as to ensure that pricing information for any instrument traded on the exchange is reliable and coherently delivered to exchange participants. In the cryptocurrency space exchanges are online platforms that allow users to trade cryptocurrencies or digital currencies for fiat money or other cryptocurrencies. They can be centralized exchanges such a Binance, or decentralized exchanges such as IDEX. Most cryptocurrency exchanges allow users to trade different crypto assets with BTC or ETH after having already exchanged fiat currency for one of those cryptocurrencies. Coinbase and Kraken are the main avenue for fiat money to enter into the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
Function and History
Crypto exchanges can be market-makers that take bid/ask spreads as a commission on the transaction for facilitating the trade, or more often charge a small percentage fee for operating the forum in which the trade was made. Most crypto exchanges operate outside of Western countries, enabling them to avoid stringent financial regulations and the potential for costly and lengthy legal proceedings. These entities will often maintain bank accounts in multiple jurisdictions, allowing the exchange to accept fiat currency and process transactions from customers all over the globe.
The concept of a digital asset exchange has been around since the late 2000s and the following initial attempts at running digital asset exchanges foreshadows the trouble involved in attempting to disrupt the operation of the fiat currency baking system. The trading of digital or electronic assets predate Bitcoin’s creation by several years, with the first electronic trading entities running afoul of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) in late 2004. Companies such as Goldex, SydneyGoldSales, and Ozzigold, shut down voluntarily after ASIC found that they were operating without an Australian Financial Services License. E-Gold, which exchanged fiat USD for grams of precious metals in digital form, was possibly the first digital currency exchange as we know it, allowing users to make instant transfers to the accounts of other E-Gold members. At its peak in 2006 E-Gold processed $2 billion worth of transactions and boasted a user base of over 5 million people.
Popular Exchanges
Here we will give a brief overview of the features and operational history of the more popular and higher volume exchanges because these are the platforms to which newer traders will be exposed. These exchanges are recommended to use because they are the industry standard and they inspire the most confidence.
Bitfinex
Owned and operated by iFinex Inc, the cryptocurrency trading platform Bitfinex was the largest Bitcoin exchange on the planet until late 2017. Headquartered in Hong Kong and based in the US Virgin Island, Bitfinex was one of the first exchanges to offer leveraged trading (“Margin trading allows a trader to open a position with leverage. For example — we opened a margin position with 2X leverage. Our base assets had increased by 10%. Our position yielded 20% because of the 2X leverage. Standard trades are traded with leverage of 1:1”) and also pioneered the use of the somewhat controversial, so-called “stable coin” Tether (USDT).
Binance
Binance is an international multi-language cryptocurrency exchange that rose from the mid-rank of cryptocurrency exchanges to become the market dominating behemoth we see today. At the height of the late 2017/early 2018 bull run, Binance was adding around 2 million new users per week! The exchange had to temporarily disallow new registrations because its servers simply could not keep up with that volume of business. After the temporary ban on new users was lifted the exchange added 240,000 new accounts within two hours.
Have you ever thought whats the role of the cypto exchanges? The answer is simple! There are several different types of exchanges that cater to different needs within the ecosystem, but their functions can be described by one or more of the following: To allow users to convert fiat currency into cryptocurrency. To trade BTC or ETH for alt coins. To facilitate the setting of prices for all crypto assets through an auction market mechanism. Simply put, you can either mine cryptocurrencies or purchase them, and seeing as the mining process requires the purchase of expensive mining equipment, Cryptocurrency exchanges can be loosely grouped into one of the 3 following exchange types, each with a slightly different role or combination of roles.
Have you ever thought about what are the types of Crypto exchanges?
  1. Traditional Cryptocurrency Exchange: These are the type that most closely mimic traditional stock exchanges where buyers and sellers trade at the current market price of whichever asset they want, with the exchange acting as the intermediary and charging a small fee for facilitating the trade. Kraken and GDAX are examples of this kind of cryptocurrency exchange. Fully peer-to-peer exchanges that operate without a middleman include EtherDelta, and IDEX, which are also examples of decentralized exchanges.
  2. Cryptocurrency Brokers: These are website or app based exchanges that act like a Travelex or other bureau-de-change. They allow customers to buy or sell crypto assets at a price set by the broker (usually market price plus a small premium). Coinbase is an example of this kind of exchange.
  3. Direct Trading Platform: These platforms offer direct peer-to-peer trading between buyers and sellers, but don’t use an exchange platform in doing so. These types of exchanges do not use a set market rate; rather, sellers set their own rates. This is a highly risky form of trading, from which new users should shy away.
To understand how an exchange functions we need only look as far as a traditional stock exchange. Most all the features of a cryptocurrency exchange are analogous to features of trading on a traditional stock exchange. In the simplest terms, the exchanges fulfil their role as the main marketplace for crypto assets of all kinds by catering to buyers or sellers. These are some definitions for the basic functions and features to know: Market Orders: Orders that are executed instantly at the current market price. Limit Order: This is an order that will only be executed if and when the price has risen to or dropped to that price specified by the trader and is also within the specified period of time. Transaction fees: Exchanges will charge transactions fees, usually levied on both the buyer and the seller, but sometimes only the seller is charged a fee. Fees vary on different exchanges though the norm is usually below 0.75%. Transfer charges: The exchange is in effect acting as a sort of escrow agent, to ensure there is no foul play, so it might also charge a small fee when you want to withdraw cryptocurrency to your own wallet.
Regulatory Environment and Evolution
Cryptocurrency has come a long way since the closing down of the Silk Road darknet market. The idea of crypto currency being primarily for criminals, has largely been seen as totally inaccurate and outdated. In this section we focus on the developing regulations surrounding the cryptocurrency asset class by region, and we also look at what the future may hold.
The United States of America
A coherent uniform approach at Federal or State level has yet to be implemented in the United States. The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network published guidelines as early as 2013 suggesting that BTC and other cryptos may fall under the label of “money transmitters” and thus would be required to take part in the same Anti-money Laundering (AML) and Know your Client (KYC) procedures as other money service businesses. At the state level, Texas applies its existing finance laws. And New York has instituted an entirely new licensing system.
The European Union
The EU’s approach to cryptocurrency has generally been far more accommodating overall than the United States, partly due to the adaptable nature of pre-existing laws governing electronic money that predated the creation of Bitcoin. As with the USA, the EU’s main fear is money laundering and criminality. The European Central Bank (ECB) categorized BTC as a “convertible decentralized currency” and advised all central banks in the EU to refrain from trading any cryptocurrencies until the proper regulatory framework was put in place. A task force was then set up by the European Parliament in order to prevent and investigate any potential money laundering that was making use of the new technology.
Likely future regulations for cryptocurrency traders within the European Union and North America will probably consist of the following proposals: The initiation of full KYC procedures so that users cannot remain fully anonymous, in order to prevent tax evasion and curtail money laundering. Caps on payments that can be made in cryptocurrency, similar to caps on traditional cash transactions. A set of rules governing tax obligations regarding cryptocurrencies Regulation by the ECB of any companies that offer exchanges between cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies It is less likely for other countries to follow the Chinese approach and completely ban certain aspects of cryptocurrency trading. It is widely considered more progressive and wiser to allow the technology to grow within a balanced accommodative regulatory framework that takes all interests and factors into consideration. It is probable that the most severe form of regulation will be the formation of new governmental bodies specifically to form laws and exercise regulatory control over the cryptocurrency space. But perhaps that is easier said than done. It may, in certain cases, be incredibly difficult to implement particular regulations due to the anonymous and decentralized nature of crypto.
Behavior of Cryptocurrency Investors by Demographic
Due to the fact that cryptocurrency has its roots firmly planted in the cryptography community, the vast majority of early adopters are representative of that group. In this section we cover the basic structure of the cryptocurrency market cycle and the makeup of the community at large, as well as the reasons behind different trading decisions.
The Cryptocurrency Market Cycle
Bitcoin leads the bull rally. FOMO (Fear of missing out) occurs, the price surge is a constant topic of mainstream news, business programs cover the story, and social media is abuzz with cryptocurrency chatter. Bitcoin reaches new All Timehigh (ATH) Market euphoria is fueled with even more hype and the cycle is in full force. There is a constant stream of news articles and commentary on the meteoric, seemingly unstoppable rise of Bitcoin. Bitcoin’s price “stabilizes”, In the 2017 bull run this was at or around $14,000. A number of solid, large market cap altcoins rise along with Bitcoin; ETH & LTC leading the altcoins at this time. FOMO comes into play, as the new ATH in market cap is reached by pumping of a huge number of alt coins.
Top altcoins “somewhat” stabilize, after reaching new all-time highs. The frenzy continues with crypto success stories, notable figures and famous people in the news. A majority of lesser known cryptocurrencies follow along on the upward momentum. Newcomers are drawn deeper into crypto and sign up for exchanges other than the main entry points like Coinbase and Kraken. In 2017 this saw Binance inundated with new registrations. Some of the cheapest coins are subject to massive pumping, such as Tron TRX which saw a rise in market cap from $150 million at the start of December 2017 to a peak of $16 billion! At this stage, even dead coins or known scams will get pumped. The price of the majority of cryptocurrencies stabilize, and some begin to retract. When the hype is subsiding after a huge crypto bull run, it is a massive sell signal. Traditional investors will begin to give interviews about how people need to be careful putting money into such a highly volatile asset class. Massive violent correction begins and the market starts to collapse. BTC begins to fall consistently on a daily basis, wiping out the insane gains of many medium to small cap cryptos with it. Panic selling sweeps through the market. Depression sets in, both in the markets, and in the minds of individual investors who failed to take profits, or heed the signs of imminent collapse. The price stagnation can last for months, or even years.
The Influence of Age upon Trading
Did you know? Cryptocurrencies have been called “stocks for millennials” According to a survey conducted by the Global Blockchain Business Council, only 5% of the American public own any bitcoin, but of those that do, an overwhelming majority of 71% are men, 58% of them are between the ages of 18 and 35, and over half of them are minorities. The same survey gauged public attitude toward the high risk/high return nature of cryptocurrency, in comparison to more secure guaranteed small percentage gains offered by government bonds or stocks, and found that 30% would rather invest $1,000 in crypto. Over 42% of millennials were aware of cryptocurrencies as opposed to only 15% of those ages 65 and over. In George M. Korniotis and Alok Kumar’s study into the effects of aging on portfolio management and the quality of decisions made by older investors, they found “that older and experienced investors are more likely to follow “rules of thumb” that reflect greater investment knowledge. However, older investors are less effective in applying their investment knowledge and exhibit worse investment skill, especially if they are less educated and earn lower income.”
Geographic Influence upon Trading
One of the main drivers of the apparent seasonal ebb and flow of cryptocurrency prices is the tax situation in the various territories that have the highest concentrations of cryptocurrency holders. Every year we see an overall market pull back beginning in mid to late January, with a recovery beginning usually after April. This is because “Tax Season” is roughly the same across Europe and the United States, with the deadline for Income tax returns being April 15th in the United States, and the tax year officially ending the UK on the 6th of April. All capital gains must be declared before the window closes or an American trader will face the powerful and long arm of the IRS with the consequent legal proceedings and possible jail time. Capital gains taxes around the world vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction but there are often incentives for cryptocurrency holders to refrain from trading for over a year to qualify their profits as long term gain when they finally sell. In the US and Australia, for example, capital gains are reduced if you bought cryptocurrency for investment purposes and held it for over a year. In Germany if crypto assets are held for over a year then the gains derived from their sale are not taxed. Advantages like this apply to individual tax returns, on a case by case basis, and it is up to the investor to keep up to date with the tax codes of the territory in which they reside.
2013 Bull run vs 2017 Bull run price Analysis
In late 2016 cryptocurrency traders were faced with the task of distinguishing between the beginnings of a genuine bull run and what might colorfully be called a “dead cat bounce” (in traditional market terminology). Stagnation had gripped the market since the pull-back of early 2014. The meteoric rise of Bitcoin’s price in 2013 peaked with a price of $1,100 in November 2013, after a year of fantastic news on the adoption front with both Microsoft and PayPal offering BTC payment options. It is easy to look at a line going up on a chart and speak after the fact, but at the time, it is exceeding difficult to say whether the cat is actually climbing up the wall, or just bouncing off the ground. Here, we will discuss the factors that gave savvy investors clues as to why the 2017 bull run was going to outstrip the 2013 rally. Hopefully this will help give insight into how to differentiate between the signs of a small price increase and the start of a full scale bull run. Most importantly, Volume was far higher in 2017. As we can see in the graphic below, the 2017 volume far exceeds the volume of BTC trading during the 2013 price increase. The stranglehold MtGox held on trading made a huge bull run very difficult and unlikely.
Fraud & Immoral Activity in the Private Market
Ponzi Schemes Cryptocurrency Ponzi schemes will be covered in greater detail in Lesson 7, but we need to get a quick overview of the main features of Ponzi schemes and how to spot them at this point in our discussion. Here are some key indicators of a Ponzi scheme, both in cryptocurrencies and traditional investments: A guaranteed promise of high returns with little risk. Consistentflow of returns regardless of market conditions. Investments that have not been registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Investment strategies that are a secret, or described as too complex. Clients not allowed to view official paperwork for their investment. Clients have difficulties trying to get their money back. The initial members of the scheme, most likely unbeknownst to the later investors, are paid their “dividends” or “profits” with new investor cash. The most famous modern-day example of a Ponzi scheme in the traditional world, is Bernie Madoff’s $100 billion fraudulent enterprise, officially titled Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC. And in the crypto world, BitConnect is the most infamous case of an entirely fraudulent project which boasted a market cap of $2 billion at its peak.
What are the Exchange Hacks?
The history of cryptocurrency is littered with examples of hacked exchanges, some of them so severe that the operation had to be wound up forever. As we have already discussed, incredibly tech savvy and intelligent computer hackers led by Alexander Vinnik stole 850000 BTC from the MtGox exchange over a period from 2012–2014 resulting in the collapse of the exchange and a near-crippling hammer blow to the emerging asset class that is still being felt to this day. The BitGrail exchange suffered a similar style of attack in late 2017 and early 2018, in which Nano (XRB) was stolen that was at one point was worth almost $195 million. Even Bitfinex, one of the most famous and prestigious exchanges, has suffered a hack in 2016 where $72 million worth of BTC was stolen directly from customer accounts.
Hardware Wallet Scam Case Study
In late 2017, an unfortunate character on Reddit, going by the name of “moody rocket” relayed his story of an intricate scam in which his newly acquired hardware wallet was compromised, and his $34,000 life savings were stolen. He bought a second hand Nano ledger into which the scammers own recover seed had already been inserted. He began using the ledger without knowing that the default seed being used was not a randomly assigned seed. After a few weeks the scammer struck, and withdrew all the poor HODLer’s XRP, Dash and Litecoin into their own wallet (likely through a few intermediary wallets to lessen the very slim chances of being identified).
Hardware Wallet Scam Case Study Social Media Fraud
Many gullible and hapless twitter users have fallen victim to the recent phenomenon of scammers using a combination of convincing fake celebrity twitter profiles and numerous amounts of bots to swindle them of ETH or BTC. The scammers would set up a profile with a near identical handle to a famous figure in the tech sphere, such as Vitalik Buterin or Elon Musk. And then in the tweet, immediately following a genuine message, follow up with a variation of “Bonus give away for the next 100 lucky people, send me 0.1 ETH and I will send you 1 ETH back”, followed by the scammers ether wallet address. The next 20 or so responses will be so-called sockpuppet bots, thanking the fake account for their generosity. Thus, the pot is baited and the scammers can expect to receive potentially hundreds of donations of 0.1 Ether into their wallet. Many twitter users with a large follower base such as Vitalik Buterin have taken to adding “Not giving away ETH” to their username to save careless users from being scammed.
Market Manipulation
It also must be recognized that market manipulation is taking place in cryptocurrency. For those with the financial means i.e. whales, there are many ways in which to control the market in a totally immoral and underhanded way for your own profit. It is especially easy to manipulate cryptos that have a very low trading volume. The manipulator places large buy orders or sell walls to discourage price action in one way or the other. Insider trading is also a significant problem in cryptocurrency, as we saw with the example of blatant insider trading when Bitcoin Cash was listed on Coinbase.
Examples of ICO Fraudulent Company Behavior
In the past 2 years an astronomical amount of money has been lost in fraudulent Initial Coin Offerings. The utmost care and attention must be employed before you invest. We will cover this area in greater detail with a whole lesson devoted to the topic. However, at this point, it is useful to look at the main instances of ICO fraud. Among recent instances of fraudulent ICOs resulting in exit scams, 2 of the most infamous are the Benebit and PlexCoin ICOs which raised $4 million for the former and $15 million for the latter. Perhaps the most brazen and damaging ICO scam of all time was the Vietnamese Pincoin ICO operation, where $660million was raised from 32,000 investors before the scammer disappeared with the funds. In case of smaller ICO “exit scamming” there is usually zero chance of the scammers being found. Investors must just take the hit. We will cover these as well as others in Lesson 7 “Scam Projects”.
Signposts of Fraudulent Actors
The following factors are considered red flags when investigating a certain project or ICO, and all of them should be considered when deciding whether or not you want to invest. Whitepaper is a buzzword Salad: If the whitepaper is nothing more than a collection of buzzwords with little clarity of purpose and not much discussion of the tech involved, it is overwhelmingly likely you are reading a scam whitepaper.
Signposts of Fraudulent Actors §2
No Code Repository: With the vast majority of cryptocurrency projects employing open source code, your due diligence investigation should start at GitHub or Sourceforge. If the project has no entries, or nothing but cloned code, you should avoid it at all costs. Anonymous Team: If the team members are hard to find, or if you see they are exaggerating or lying about their experience, you should steer clear. And do not forget, in addition to taking proper precautions when investing in ICOs, you must always make sure that you are visiting authentic web pages, especially for web wallets. If, for example, you are on a spoof MyEtherWallet web page you could divulge your private key without realizing it and have your entire portfolio of Ether and ERC-20 tokens cleaned out.
Methods to Avoid falling Victim
Avoiding scammers and the traps they set for you is all about asking yourself the right questions, starting with: Is there a need for a Blockchain solution for the particular problem that a particular ICO is attempting to solve? The existing solution may be less costly, less time consuming, and more effective than the proposals of a team attempting to fill up their soft cap in an ICO. The following quote from Mihai Ivascu, the CEO of Modex, should be kept in mind every time you are grading an ICO’s chances of success: “I’m pretty sure that 95% of ICOswill not last, and many will go bankrupt. ….. not everything needs to be decentralized and put on an open source ledger.”
Methods to Avoid falling Victim §2 Do I Trust These People with My Money, or Not?
If you continue to feel uneasy about investing in the project, more due diligence is needed. The developers must be qualified and competent enough to complete the objectives that they have set out in the whitepaper.
Is this too good to be true?
All victims of the well-known social media scams using fake profiles of Vitalik Buterin, or Bitconnect investors for that matter, should have asked themselves this simple question, and their investment would have been saved. In the case of Bitconnect, huge guaranteed gains proportional to the amount of people you can get to sign up was a blatant pyramid scheme, obviously too good to be true. The same goes for Fake Vitalik’s offer of 1 ether in exchange for 0.1 ETH.
Selling Cryptocurrencies, Several reasons for selling with the appropriate actions to take:
If you are selling to buy into an ICO, or maybe believe Ether is a safer currency to hold for a certain period of time, it is likely you will want to make use of the Ether pair and receive Ether in return. Obviously if the ICO is on the NEO or WANchain blockchain for example, you will use the appropriate pair. -Trading to buy into another promising project that is listing on the exchange on which you are selling (or you think the exchange will experience a large amount of volume and become a larger exchange), you may want to trade your cryptocurrency for that exchange token. -If you believe that BTC stands a good chance of experiencing a bull run then using the BTC trading pair is the suitable choice. -If you believe that the market is about to experience a correction but you do not want to take your gains out of the market yet, selling for Tether or “tethering up” is the best play. This allows you to keep your locked-in profits on the exchange, unaffected by the price movements in the cryptocurrency markets,so that you can buy back in at the most profitable moment. -If you wish to “cash out” i.e. sell your cryptocurrency for fiat currency and have those funds in your bank account, the best pair to use is ETH or BTC because you will likely have to transfer to an exchange like Kraken or Coinbase to convert them into fiat. If the exchange offers Litecoin or Bitcoin Cash pairs it could be a good idea to use these for their fast transaction time and low fees.
Selling Cryptocurrencies
Knowing when and how to sell, as well as strategies to inflate the value of your trade before sale, are important skills as a trader of any product or financial instrument. If you are satisfied that the sale itself of the particular amount of a token or coin you are trading away is the right one, then you must decide at what price you are going to sell. Exchanges exercise their own discretion as to which trading “pairs” they will offer, but the most common ones are BTC, ETH, BNB for Binance, BIX for Bibox etc., and sometimes Tether (USDT) or NEO. As a trader, you decide which particular cryptocurrency to exchange depending on your reason for making that specific trade at that time.
Methods of Sale
Market sell/Limit sell on exchange: A limit sell is an order placed on an exchange to sell as soon as (also specifically only if and when) the price you specified has been hit within the time limit you select. A market order executes the sale immediately at the best possible price offered by the market at that exact time. OTC (or Over the Counter) selling refers to sale of securities or cryptocurrencies in any method without using an exchange to intermediate the trade and set the price. The most common way of conducting sales in this manner is through LocalBitcoins.com. This method of cryptocurrency selling is far riskier than using an exchange, for obvious reasons.
The influence and value of your Trade
There are a number of strategies you can use to appreciate the value of your trade and thus increase the Bitcoin or Ether value of your portfolio. It is important to disassociate yourself from the dollar value of your portfolio early on in your cryptocurrency trading career simply because the crypto market is so volatile you will end up pulling your hair out in frustration following the real dollar money value of your holdings. Once your funds have been converted into BTC and ETH they are completely in the crypto sphere. (Some crypto investors find it more appropriate to monitor the value of their portfolio in satoshi or gwei.) Certainly not limited to, but especially good for beginners, the most reliable way to increase your trading profits, and thus the overall value and health of your portfolio, is to buy into promising projects, hold them for 6 months to a year, and then reevaluate. This is called Long term holding and is the tactic that served Bitcoin HODLers quite well, from 2013 to the present day. Obviously, if something comes to light about the project that indicates a lengthy set back is likely, it is often better to cut your losses and sell. You are better off starting over and researching other projects. Also, you should set initial Price Points at which you first take out your original investment, and then later, at which you take out all your profits and exit the project. That should be after you believe the potential for growth has been exhausted for that particular project.
Another method of increasing the value of your trades is ICO flipping. This is the exact opposite of long term holding. This is a technique in which you aim for fast profits taking advantage of initial enthusiasm in the market that may double or triple the value of ICO projects when they first come to market. This method requires some experience using smaller exchanges like IDEX, on which project tokens can be bought and sold before listing on mainstream exchanges. “Tethering up” means to exchange tokens or coins for the USDT stable coin, the value of which is tethered to the US Dollar. If you learn, or know how to use, technical analysis, it is possible to predict when a market retreatment is likely by looking at the price movements of BTC. If you decide a market pull back is likely, you can tether up and maintain the dollar value of your portfolio in tether while other tokens and coins decrease in value. The you wait for an opportune moment to reenter the market.
Market Behavior in Different Time Periods
The main descriptors used for overall market sentiment are “Bull Market” and “Bear Market”. The former describes a market where people are buying on optimism. The latter describes a market where people are selling on pessimism. Fun (or maybe not) fact: The California grizzly bear was brought to extinction by the love of bear baiting as a sport in the mid 1800s. Bears were highly sought after for their intrinsic fighting qualities, and were forced into fighting bulls as Sunday morning entertainment for Californians. What has this got to do with trading and financial markets? The downward swipe of the bear’s paws gives a “Bear market” its name and the upward thrust of a Bull’s horns give the “Bull Market” its name. Most unfortunately for traders, the bear won over 80% of the bouts. During a Bull market, optimism can sometimes grow to be seemingly boundless, volume is rising, and prices are ascending. It can be a good idea to sell or rebalance your portfolio at such a time, especially if you have a particularly large position in one holding or another. This is especially applicable if you need to sell a large amount of a relatively low-volume holding, because you can then do so without dragging the price down by the large size of your own sell order.

REAL REVERSAL? YESTERDAY WAS THE HIGHEST VOLUME DAY IN BITCOIN HISTORY

REAL REVERSAL? YESTERDAY WAS THE HIGHEST VOLUME DAY IN BITCOIN HISTORY
REAL REVERSAL? YESTERDAY WAS THE HIGHEST VOLUME DAY IN BITCOIN HISTORY
Cryptocurrency analysts were celebrating December 21 after Bitcoin posted its biggest daily trade volume in history.
2.3M DAILY BITCOIN VOLUME
Data compiled by the fund manager known on Twitter as Crypto Quantamental confirmed Thursday had become the day with the single largest amount of BTC changing hands – a total of 2,266,735 BTC ($9.1 billion).
The figure tops the previous record which had come December 7 (1,972,040 BTC) and the third busiest day on February 6 this year (1,891,130 BTC).
“This was the highest volume day in Bitcoin history,” Crypto Quantamental summarized.

THIS WAS THE HIGHEST VOLUME DAY IN BITCOIN HISTORY. IT WASN'T EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE!

WHAT’S IN A USD BITCOIN PRICE?
The achievement for Bitcoin came at a somewhat unlikely time. After surprising investors with a jump of almost $1000 in days, the Bitcoin price $4252.80 +0.32% still remained around 35 percent lower than it had been as recently as November.
Despite this, volumes easily surpassed all previous efforts, leading to the conclusion that trading activity did not depend on high prices.
“This critique is false,” Crypto Quantamental commented.
Take a look at the bitcoin volume comparison with over periods where we were 3000-4500. Much higher[.]

Thursday also saw a second downward difficulty adjustment on the Bitcoin network, allowing miners to expend less energy and cost in participating.
A previous downward adjustment December 4 had constituted the first such move in seven years with Bitcoinist reporting on how Bitcoin’s hash rate subsequently stabilized to the delight of many users.
Addressing concerns BTC/USD had climbed too much too quickly meanwhile, Crypto Quantamental warned that understanding whether this week’s Bitcoin price action was a genuine reversal of “dead cat bounce” would only come “well after the fact.”
“Volume is obviously higher which suggest the chance of reversal is higher, but you never know,” he wrote in an accompanying blog post.
In fact I wouldn’t “claim” bottom until (around $6000), many bears won’t until (around $10,000), and there will be plenty that won’t until we reach (all-time highs). So to be clear, I am NOT calling a bottom here.
This week also saw veteran trader Peter Brandt discuss whether the current upturn in BTC price signaled the start of a reversal trend.

The Monster, the Return (Part 1)

Original Transgression Here
Fact: There are eleven recognized sub-species of Tiger. Five are now extinct.
Fact: The Siberian Tiger is the largest sub-species. Males average between 400 and 675 lbs. The largest wild specimen weighed in at 845lbs.
Bengals can be close, their weights overlap, and since there’s more of them in closer proximity to humans there’s more likely to be…incidents. Tigers have been known to consume close to 90lbs of meat at one time. The best estimate is an adult tiger kills and eats a deer sized prey animal about once a week. However, they have been known to take cows and elephant calves.
The Champawat Tigress had 436 recorded kills. I say recorded because it very likely killed many more people. You see the smart man-eaters, they start slow; they’re secretive. They usually start out of desperation, but once they realize how easy it is, they can’t stop.
I wonder… do you think they get a thrill out of the terror they inflict? I have to believe they do. I mean it can’t be just the act right? Tons of animals surplus kill. Sorry, for you animal lovers out there, it’s the technical term that means killing for fun. From insects to great apes, lots of animals kill other animals for no apparent reason than the thrill of it. They exert massive amounts of energy into taking the life of other creatures. Not for food, not for territory, some of them even torture the other animals first.
The Champawat Tigress’ legend grew so large that after Jim Corbett tracked and killed her, they made him a holy man. Corbett killed several other infamous man hunters with his 7mm Mauser (That’s .275 Rigby for you Brits, I haven’t forgotten about you Deadman Talking). That rifle is still on display, revered by the locals in India. Truth be told I envy Jim Corbett. Picking up traveling the world hunting monsters. Sounds like quite the life to me.
Oh I’m sorry… You all wanted a story about Dogman right? Wanted to get your fix of Wooly-Booger before trundling off to bed. Well, all in good time. If you want to know so badly, just skip down a bit. Right now I have some business to attend to.
First I have to get somethings off my chest, I feel the need to clarify somethings for you: 1) I am incredibly disappointed in the OP (Bick) for such a judgmental title. “The Monster” is really hurtful. I thought we understood each other better than that.
2) To those of you saying, the name should have been “Bait”: if I had known the OP was going to share something I thought we had discussed in CONFIDENCE, or I had written the story; I agree. Bait would have been a better title. If only because “Air headed female Millennial finally has a purpose” seems a bit wordy. Plus, if I had written it I would have spent a lot more time on my rifles; no one really wanted to hear the yapping of that self-absorbed twit anyway.
3) Some of you are under the mistaken impression that the OP is my girlfriend, sorry… was my girlfriend. This is incorrect. The OP is a friend of mine. One of the few I have, so for him to betray me like that, well; I might just have to plan another hunting trip.
I mean can you imagine. What if he had shared enough details and one of you started hunting my honey-hole. Unbelievable. The balls on this guy.
4) If you haven’t figured it out by now this is being dictated. BickisMyPen’sname agreed to dictate this and the rest of the story in part for penance for breaking faith. I SHOULDN’T HAVE to tell him that stories shared between US are confidential unless I EXPLICITLY state otherwise.
“So Mr. BickisMyPen’sname, what do you have to say for yourself?”
“Please don’t make me write this, you know how much I hate getting sucked into other people’s stories.”
“TELL THEM!!”
“I’m sorry I told them about your hunting trick. It won’t happen again.”
“And??”
“And, I will dictate this word for word just like you wanted. I will finish the story telling them of your great hunting exploits.”
“And??”
“Aw c’mon man, really?”
“AND??”
“And as penance for breaking faith, I will tell everyone my secret for catching… Really? I wouldn’t say insane… Fine fine. I will tell everyone my secret for catching insane amounts of trout in Northern Michigan, and (sigh). I will give XXXXX (redacted) directions and also lead him to said fishing hole for trout. Good enough?”
“Well?”
“Natural Scent Powerbait and Crawlers. It’s like Trout crack.”
“Ha! I knew you were stacking the deck. There now, not so bad. You’re my boy! Don’t look so glum. After this we’ll hit a Meijer, grab a bite, and take few days to go catch a limit of trout. You can navigate us up to that trout pond. I might even tell you about my latest hunt, you can tell me what happened to that attractive you couple I read about. Yeah, it’s fine, let’s get back to it; I want to get through this quick. I can hear the rods calling me.”
Now that that’s out of the way, some of you (looking at you ziplockzzz) have accused me of being a psychopath. In reality, I am a more probably a high functioning sociopath. But, if you think I’m bad, imagine being friends with this guy. He’s so obsessed with horror, he goes around collecting stories from people, and gets off knowing he’s actually made people scared. Good guy, but maybe a bit of a screw loose. Or heck, maybe I've got one loose, the Dogmen sure like to get off by trying to scare people. I’m just here trying to do what I do, and so is he.
“Btw, XXXXX (Bickismypensname) you can keep your original title. You did promise all those people a (he’s making air quotes folks) “proper” ending.”
Lulz (sic), I don’t know... I thought it was it was the natural ending. It was after all, the last thing she said into the phone before screaming off into the night. I mean, maybe not the ending people were expecting, but it was pretty final. Really surprised how many of the people listening to the story didn’t pick up on the fact that your story was the message was transcribed from the audio recording on her phone. Of course I took the phone, I couldn’t have someone accidentally catching on to my trick now could I? That was until ol’ diarrhea of the keyboard over here started blabbing to everyone. Ugh, she was so wordy too, I bet you didn’t have to do much punch up before you put that one out did you? I took the phone in order to sever the primary evidence chain. Habeas Corpus (produce the body). As far as I know, she’s just another 411 statistic. But, a sharper than average police detective with that in hand might have made my life difficult for a little while.
You know why she didn’t remember exactly how we met? Because I set it all up that’s why! It was super easy too! I really ought to send Michael Eisner and whoever else is at Disney a big fucking thank you card for pretty much putting out a playbook on how to hunt…sorry attract certain women. In this age of entitled self-absorbed over sharing (he’s giving me a pretty mean look) princesses, it was ridiculously easy. You know the hardest part for me? Finding one that wasn’t such a freaking “Bambi-ite”. For real people, nature isn’t green; Nature is BLOOD RED. If you’re reading Dogmen stories I hope you have a good grip on that, cause (sic) nobody’s coming to save you. EVERYTHING in nature kills and eats everything else. Why should people be any different? Times get tough, Bambi eats thumper. Cryptids need to eat too, why not a readily available food supply? To be honest, I think they’re more territorial anyway. You want to lure one out? Want to piss it off enough to hunt or trap it? Better figure out a way to make it so mad it can’t think straight and comes after you, or a handy assistant as the case may warrant.
Some of you are wondering how I pay for all of this? Well it’s not as hard as you think. Step 1 is find a lucrative niche, and Step 2 is to capitalize. Engineers do make pretty good money. I’m exceptionally financially fit thanks to several lucrative patent rights and some smart investing (Thanks Bitcoin).
Last thing, I am disappointed in some of the comments especially from the people listening. Overall, the reader’s comments were better. People reading it for themselves seemed to grasp it better than those who had it read to them. Pursuant to the rules of NoSleep, everything BickisMyPen’sname writes is quite true, it just doesn’t always happen to him. Sometimes he pieces the stories together from interviews, or diaries. Oftentimes he is one of the participants but he writes himself out. He’s made quite the hobby of trying to scare you, so I can understand why he would want to tell about my exploits after all. I hope you can appreciate the great lengths he goes to, to accurately describe and relate these events to you.
Let’s see, to sum it all up. Yes, she was the bait. The OP conveys true and original material. The story didn’t end in the middle, my friend the OP ended it there because that is where the recording on her phone ended. He knows the rest of the story, but he gets off on knowing you could be terrified that (more air quotes folks) “The Monster” is still out there and it could be coming for you.
That one isn’t, it was a rogue, a lone male; good size, not bad for my first cryptid. That one won’t be coming after anything, but there’s much worse things out there. There’s an Alpha Pack Leader up there that made me hire a construction crew to come out and armor up my cabin. Those of you familiar with “The Siege of Lockett Ranch” that shit ain’t(sic) going to be happening to me. Maybe at the end of my story I’ll tell the people how to fortify their homes. I do have to say, I’m glad I only had to tango with the one. If it had been that Alpha, or even if it had had a mate; well I don’t think I’d be here telling you the rest of this story right now.
In any case, let’s have some Scotch and get back to it. Jesus Christ! Ice and ginger ale in a fifteen year old single malt scotch; and you call me a Monster. Well never mind, just come on; people want to know about my dangerous game hunts.
Fact: In the past half century there has only been three recorded fatal predatory wolf attacks on humans.
Fact: The Beast of Gevauden is credited with 210 human attacks; 113 victims died, and 98 were devoured.
Though the beast was never identified it was described as a ‘Larger than Average Wolf’. It was said to be much larger than a wolf, with a reddish coloration and an unbearable smell, as well as teeth bigger than those of a normal wolf. Sound familiar?
It too was put down by a better than average hunter, Monsieur Jean Chastel. So really, you should be thanking me. France keeps the best records on this (wolf attacks), but the Norwegians aren’t far behind. A worldwide 2002 study by the Norwegian Institute of Nature Research showed that 90% of victims of predatory wolf attacks were children under the age of 18, especially under the age of 10. In the rare cases where adults were killed, the victims were almost always women.
Unfortunately, I didn’t exactly have somewhere where I could just grab up an orphan or two now could I? A diminutive female was next best option, and far less suspicious.
Now let me ask you: What do you think it means that wolves are credited with so few fatalities? Do you think these Apex predators that competed with us for food for millennia, and that survived with us through the last ice age, just gave up on attacking us? Do you really believe that wolves that continue to plague Eastern Europe and Asia, are somehow just so scared of Man that they leave us alone?
Few recorded kills means one of two things. Either it truly isn’t happening, or…they’re really good at it.
Fact: On average there are 90,000 missing persons in the USA at any given time.
Fact: Michigan has nearly twice as many missing people per capita as all of its neighboring states.
Fact: Dead people can’t file attack reports.
Chastel tracked The Beast of Gevauden into the mountains, its stomach still contained the remains of its last human kill. Corbett literally found the Champawat tigress by following the trail of blood and limbs from her latest victim; a teenaged girl. As prolific as those killer beasts were, it was these thoughts that made me wonder how much more prolific would their runs have been had they laid low? If the beasts were tactical enough to cover their tracks; like they were in the beginning, how long could they have gone on for? If they hadn’t grown so brazen, how many people could they have continued to prey upon?
Why am I telling you all of this? It’s because it was this line of thinking that lead me to hunting cryptids in the first place. It would be (is) insanely easy for something to prey on us. Dogmen, werewolves, vampires, reanimated corpses of every shape and variety, as I myself have demonstrated; it’s easy.
Well Alright, let’s get to the Dogman.
Let’s see it all started when I was feeling particularly bored. You see, as I mentioned before; I am financially well-endowed but not ludicrously so. Everyone has to know their limits. I had been working my way through the American Grand Slam when I realized how ridiculously bored I was. The hunts just weren’t holding the same thrill for me as they were before.
Let me interrupt your thoughts, this isn’t a segue into ‘The Most Dangerous Game’ I was just feeling a little under challenged. I had actually put up my rifles and was hunting brown bear with a traditional bow. The costs of repeat trips to Alaska getting onto bear and hunting a trophy was in the tens of thousands of dollars, and I just wasn’t feeling it. No matter how close I was to the massive creatures, no matter how dangerous they appeared, I just didn’t feel challenged.
How crazy is that, right? Here are the largest land predators on earth (or so I thought), and I’m armed with what is essentially a spring and a pointy stick. I don’t know. I guess something inside of me had broken. I still loved guns. I could talk all day about a beautiful Ruger Model 1 in .280 Remington that used to bring down all of the deer and one of the caribou species in North America. Or we could admire the 10 gauge Browning Gold I use to pass shoot snow geese and big Canadians (yup the same one I refit as a self-defense gun. If you think a 12 gauge has stopping power, try a 10 sometime; and hold on!). Would you like to hear about the .460 Weatherby I used to put down the Dogman? I bet you would. We’ll get there.
So there I was, feeling particularly bored. Our friend the OP here was out collecting material for some fresh nightmare, and so I just started surfing the web. I was bored with North America. Sure there was dangerous game, but I wanted something tumultuous. I wanted to pit myself against something that even with a rifle, it had a really good chance at taking me down.
So of course I started looking to Africa. Why not? I had the rifle for it. Not to brag, but the custom shop over at Weatherby does immaculate work. My .460 Weatherby Mag. It costs more than a lot of people’s cars. Weatherby put that cartridge out in 1957 and for almost thirty years it was the most powerful commercially available rifle in the world. It will stop a charging Cape Buffalo, trust me.
Still, something didn’t seem right. I wanted that trip to be something special, maybe the trip that would be my last big hurrah. I think a lot of it boiled down to I was having trouble finding ethical hunts. Now I know a lot of you are pretty incredulous about that, and I may be a lot of things; but I’m no poacher. What happened to XXXXX(Redacted) is many ways her own fault. Sure I’ll admit to putting her in some precarious situations, but all I did was make the offer; she acted it out every step of the way. I believe in fair chase. I didn’t want a canned hunt. I don’t shoot fish in a barrel, I didn’t want to go hunt something just to kill it. I wanted the thrill of the chase, especially when I knew that something might stalk me back.
When I couldn’t find something that seemed like a good fit, for whatever reason I started looking at South American hunts. I had been thinking of grabbing XXXXX (BickisMyPensName) and doing some bird hunting with him if work could afford to let me get away. I get eight weeks of paid vacation per year, but it’s rare for me to use even half of it.
I made some phone calls and soon enough I was on my way down to South America. I had converted an old break action H&R 20 gauge to fire tranquilizer dart sabots using ultra low powder rounds. Luckily, I had very little trouble getting the firearm through customs. That hasn’t always been the case. As an American you never know quite how much freedom you have until you start to visit different parts of the world. The OP is also quite the accomplished hunter and doing some wing shooting together might have been enough to get out of my doldrums. You never know what kind of weird shit you’ll get into with this guy around
I was looking through sites when I came across something interesting. A jaguar was attacking livestock in Uruguay. Seems like the locals didn’t know what do since they wanted to protect the feline, but they also didn’t want it eating their livestock. Personally, once it had taken something from me, I would have three S’d the situation and been done with it, but they’re endangered so I can sort of see why they would want to keep it breeding.
When I arrived at the village, I checked my gear and went to a little clearing and set up some targets on the edge of town. This brought no end of amusement to the locals. Seeing a guy hold one inch groups with a break action 20 gauge at 50yds was pretty impressive it seems. To be honest, I think my eyes are starting to go, too much time at a desk in front of a computer screen. As a teen using the same iron sites, the villagers would have seen just a large ragged hole. Oh well, none of us live forever, and it was close enough. If I didn’t get within 30 yards with these rounds it wasn’t going to matter, the dart might just bounce off.
Uruaguay has fairly decent gun laws, and some of the villagers were better equipped for jaguar hunting than I was. Then again I wasn’t going out to kill it. Some of the more brash young men wanted me to show them how I had made the tranquilizer loads and to show them how to make some of their own. I showed them. Really it was no skin off my ass, so why the hell not. I think maybe it was a good way to impress the Senoritas.
Whatever the case, I showed them. I took a meal with them, and then I stayed in a guest house that had been set aside for me. I wanted to get some sleep so that I could be well rested for tomorrow. Jaguars are mostly nocturnal and I wanted to scout where it had been haunting during the day. At dinner the locals had been telling me it had been getting braver. It had been spooking horses and they have some smaller cattle down there that had recently calved, and were concerned the new baby cows would be too delicious for the predatory cat to stay away from.
All of that could wait until the morning. Now it was time to try and rest. I wasn’t going to be much good to anyone if I was a zombie and too out of it to track. The locals said they had some dogs, but I really wasn’t about to trust some untrained curs with my life. For all I know they would start barking and scare the cat off before I could get in range.
I laid in the bunk provided for me pulled my hat over my eyes and slowly drifted into a light sleep. I must have only dosed for a couple of hours when I heard a piercing scream. I rushed to the noise, gun in hand, a small group of the locals had converged on the attack site.
The big cat had escalated, skipping from calves to kids. A young girl had been taken. The villagers wanted to go track it down, but were fearful of going after the cat in the darkness, and fearful that even after attacking a girl the Government would not look kindly on them hunting and killing the cat.
Suddenly, all eyes were on me.
“I will go after it.” I proclaimed to the group. “There is little hope the child is still alive, but if she is, I will bring her back.”
And with that I started into the jungle. It was worst possible timing. I was dead on my feet exhausted. The animal had every possible advantage. I was outmatched and out maneuvered. I was loving it! I was running on pure adrenaline. The only thing keeping me tethered was the yapping of the dogs around me.
The villagers had released them thinking they might be of some aide to me. Two medium size dogs not even lab size and one small one basically a toy breed. I felt safer already…
I had no misconceptions that the child was still alive. Jaguars attack from behind. Unlike other big cats they crush the brain or the base of the spine when they attack, no suffocation, no chance she was hanging on. Nevertheless, I followed the dogs into the night. The air in the pitch black jungle was thick and heavy. Strange Calls echoed thru the night. The two larger dogs ahead of me suddenly cut ahead just as I got to a little clearing nearing the edge of the water.
Not good. Jaguars are excellent swimmers. They eat the damn caiman if they’re in the mood. The small dog next to me had stopped barking and had instead opted to stand beside me shivering. I was about to make my move to the water’s edge when I heard it.
The first dog went down. There was some brief thrashing and snarls, I can only imagine that the other dog prolonged the suffering of his partner by another couple seconds or so before the lithe attacks of the cat brought it down. With his partner down, the second dog didn’t have much of a chance. I heard its snarls for a bit longer before the jaguars screams of triumph filled the night.
I was now alone with a rat dog in the South American jungle with a killer jaguar prowling around.
It. Was. Exhilarating.
The feeling was tremendous. I crouched down against the nearest thick tree and cocked the hammer on the shotgun. The trembling excuse for a dog now huddled up to me pissing itself. There was no way out.
The jaguar had us completely surrounded. It could attack from all sides or from above. I could feel its presence more than see or hear it. Death knew I was there, just not my exact position. Any movement from my position would provoke an attack. Staying throughout the night would mean it would wait until I was too tired and weary and then attack. The adrenaline running through my veins was powerful but it wasn’t limitless.
That’s when it struck me. He was full, and still stalking me. He wasn’t attacking out of hunger, at least not anymore. The girl and the two dogs would have been meal enough if that had been the case. No, this one was territorial. The dogs and I had invaded its territory. It had found us with the noise we had made, and then closed in until its night vision gave it the advantage.
I stood up to get a better vantage. The tree wouldn’t provide much protection but hopefully it would cover my ass long enough for me to figure out how to use its aggression against it. I had to shift my weight to stand up. Fortunately, I stepped on the paw of the dog wannabe.
It gave a pitiful yelp. As if on que, the Jaguar roared in response. The deep throaty roar into a snarl silenced all of the other night life around me.
That was it! The dog would give me the edge I needed. Sorry pup. I stepped on its paw again. The pitiful thing yelped again, but it wouldn’t leave my side. As if on cue the answering roar returned. This time 20 yds away on the opposite side. Damn! It was moving so fast. It was time to make my move.
I pulled out road flares I keep in my hunting vest. I always have them in case to signal or start a fire. I ignited one then stepped on the dog’s tail.
Roar! Crack-hiss! Every time it roared from a new position, I lit and threw out a flare in that direction. The bright lights might not hinder its night vision, but it might give me enough light to see for my single shot. I made a half circle around us and then gave the dog a final step. It whimpered hideously not daring to fight back or even leave.
The flares left one path of darkness between us and the jaguar. I turned and walked towards the water. I crouched waiting for the feline hunter to come for me. I sat there motionless. My gun raised, I scanned the embankment and the water for the sure sign that Death was approaching.
My breath was shallow, cold sweat dripped all over my body.
Something wasn’t right.
If it was coming this way. What was going on? I had covered all the routes hadn’t I? Then it hit me, as soon as the thought rose half formed in my mind I swiveled and fired toward the tree tops.
Jaguars are great climbers and can pounce from above.
Fact: Most tranquilizer darts take ten minutes to act.
Fact: Most tranquilizer darts use a ketamine cocktail specially measured for the size of the animal.
Fact: I am a fucking brilliant engineer and I wasn’t going to trade my life for some stupid jungle cat that wanted a piece of my ass.
My cocktail is equal parts, sedative, tranquilizer, and paralytic. It works faster than you can say ‘Hey does this smell like chloroform?’
Fast enough to save my life, but not fast enough to keep the claws of that thing from tearing gashes in my arms. It would take weeks to heal. My heirloom shotgun… not so lucky. There was no way that my grandfather could know that one day after he gave it to my father; my father would give it to me and years later it would save my life. The damn cat’s jaws nearly crushed it. It certainly pinched it tightly enough that I couldn’t work the release lever to break it open. I now had a club and an unconscious jaguar.
Fucker must have weighed 250lbs easy. I’ve had worse drags but none came to mind as tugged on the rope tied around that bastard’s throat. Hot sticky blood occasionally would trickle out of my arm wounds. All in all, I was less than a half mile from the village. I’ve dragged deer for miles up hill and didn’t feel as exhausted as I returned to the village.
When I got to the village I found the mother and father of girl. I gave them my hunting knife, and pointed them at the cat. They had the right to first refusal after all. Her mother, her mother stabbed it while wailing. I passed out.
Lucky me, they treated me with real medicine. Nice stinging iodine in my open cuts. I swear if I hadn’t been unconscious I would have died of shock. Two and half days I laid there barely moving. If I had been one of the villagers I would have taken bets.
When I woke up, I was ravenous. They had memorialized the girl and “peace” had returned to the village. I didn’t see her parents nor any sign of the jaguar. I’m guessing they figured out how to shoot shovel and shut up after all.
That night there was a feast, they had slaughtered a calf for the whole village. Asado, I think it was called. It was excellent. I forgot how good cooking over real wood tastes. Afterwards, the village witchdoctor, for lack of a better term, made iowaska. I’ve never tripped before, it was quite the experience. I saw things that I’ve never known. The shaman guided me. He showed me things I could never dream of. At the height of my journey, I saw them. Cryptids, creatures and beasts of all sorts. Mainly, I saw Dogmen. I saw packs of them. I saw them in places I knew and places I didn’t. Places I’ve hunted since I was a child. I floated just beyond their perception, though; they may have sensed me. I saw myself fighting the jaguar while I saw the Dogmen. That’s when I knew. No more boredom for me.
I had to hunt Cryptids. I had to hunt a Dogman.

Bitcoin is holding back all the cryptos because they are linked to its price. When the bubble totally cracks, and it goes below $1000 people will totally lose faith in it, mining will become too expensive and the infrastructure running the whole thing will collapse... and everyone will sell their coins. The market can select effective functional blockchain based tools (possibly coins) that will have independent valuations unlinked to the defunct and useless bitcoin .. and those MIGHT slowly grow. At the moment the chance of any growth upward is very very slim in my opinion. I'd possibly consider buying the dead cat bounce if it goes down to $1500 but not before that.

[uncensored-r/BitcoinMarkets] How I Lost Nearly 200 BTC trading this past month

The original post's content was as follows:
So, long story short, I started trading a year ago, been margin longing the whole run from 1k to 19k ( sometimes closing the top, sometimes closing too early or too late, but always making profit)
I turned 3 lowly btc which I had from playing poker (at the time 3k) into nearly 200 BTC which was almost 4 million at the top and would be 2 million at current prices.
I thought I was a trading genius, a god, whatever. Anyway, this is where the sadness starts.
After the dump from 19k to 11k I went long at the bottom, and kept adding to my position on the bounce to 12k 13k, 14k. Then, at the 16k dead cat, my position was a further 100 BTC in profit. Instead of closing then and having a total 300 BTC, I increased leverage and increased my position size. This entire position was liquadated on the drop back to 12k, because my entry had moved up so much. I lost 100 btc paper profit and nearly 50 BTC margin. I was devasted, and down to 150 BTC total.
After evaluating the situation, I came to the conclusion that the pump to 16k was a dead cat and that we are going lower. Therefore I shorted. At 12k. Added at 13k. Added at 14 and 15k. Got liquidated at the top at 17k. Another 50 BTC loss. Down to 100.
Think, ok we made a higher high at 17k, uptrend back on. Went long. Got liquidated at 13k.
50 BTC left. Devastated, unsure, no clue whats going on. Sat through the drop to 9k, when we bounced I thought it could be the bottom. Longed at 11500, panic closed 10500. When we went to 13k I was kicking myself for panic closing, went long at 12800.
Liquidated this morning for my last bitcoin.
3 BTC to 200, to 0
At this time I am still in shock, the last few months Ive neglected relationships and school, and Ive been daydreaming about living the high life rich as fuck with my millions.
Now, I am nowhere.
Posting this so others dont gamble away life changing money. Dont want donations or tips not posting an address dont PM me. I never want to hear the word btc again because I want to forget

The original post's content was as follows:
It's not tax period, it's not because it's January, it's not because of FUD, it's not because Chinese are waiting for Lunar New Year.
Four main catalysts:
  • China is banning everything related to crypto, including mining.
It's not FUD, it's a fact, Chinese government is asking local government for an exit plan out of crypto. I guess they decided the country's electricity could be used better than mining cryptos. What impact does it have ? Most miners are Chinese, invested a lot in equipment and are sitting on tons of bitcoins. They have a direct incentive to liquidate sizable portions of their holding to cover costs and cash out while they still can.
  • The number of pump and dump scams skyrocketed in the past few months.
Tron, Verge, Dentacoin, Paccoin, Snovio, Pearl, DeepBrainChain etc ... These are organised, highly successful pump and dump scams. Scammers get a lot of bitcoins/ethereum in a short amount of time and are just in for a quick get rich scheme. The bitcoins/ethereum you planned on hodling and exchanged for shitcoins? They are cashing them out asap, creating selling pressure.
  • The market is more momentum based than you think.
Let's say you already made 5x on a coin but the coin keeps climbing, you hodl until it doesn't. Now if you see it falling, you may cash out a big part of it. Now, acknowledge that the wealth distribution for each crypto is complete shit. First movers / founders get most of the coins and investors buy them at a premium. First movers / founders therefore have already made sizable returns if their coin took off, and would rather secure their profit once momentum shifts, creating altcoin selling pressure.
  • Bitcoin is unattractive for new investors and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
What got new money into crypto is Bitcoin going from thousands to 19k in a year. If you are sitting on the sidelines, why would you invest in bitcoin now ? Bitcoin is going nowhere but down, there is no fork coming, no technical improvement, it's a shit store of value, shit medium of exchange and a worse speculation vehicle than altcoins who can do 5x in two weeks. Why would you ever invest in Bitcoin at this point in time ?
My guess is we will see a dead cat bounce, courtesy of Bitfinex, and people will use it to cash the hell out and wait. Since end of December, we see 20% dumps for no reason, which made people nervous. This is the last straw.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD cash the HELL OUT as soon as we get close to 14k again (assuming it goes back up that high)

Conversations with a Dev, Insight into the workings behind our coin.

This is a copy of a discussion I had with one of the dogecoin Devs, I think it is an important read as the original post dissapeared of the front page pretty quick, it was, enlightening.
[–]rnicollReference client dev 8 points 23 hours ago We need a stable reference client whatever we do next. 1.7 will be that client, but we need more testing. We'll hopefully have a beta release in the next few days, but until they any testing on the alpha release would be greatly appreciated: http://www.reddit.com/dogecoin/comments/224vix/dogecoin_17_alpha_1_such_test_wow_much_feedback/ That out of the way; a coin derives value through utility. To make a coin useful, it must be accepted. For it be accepted, merchants must see acceptance as a cost-effective option. One of the issues they're going to wonder about, to my mind, is software stability. We keep having major updates which fork the blockchain or have problems with the RPC daemon. 1.7 is our solution to that; a massively improved client based on the Bitcoin 0.9 client, with a far more in depth testing period than previous releases. It means we're leaping to the front of the altcoins in technical basis, and providing a rock solid foundation for adoption. Meanwhile, we have documentation projects ongoing in security and standards both to further aide adoption, and to enable alternative implementations. Edit: Going to bed, not ignoring any replies, but unlikely to get back to you until after work tomorrow. permalinksavereportgive goldreply
[–]Master565[S] 1 point 16 hours ago That sounds great! I wish I could help you test, but I'm on the wrong computer in the wrong country right now.
[–]junkyardmessiah 6 points 23 hours ago All things being equal however , as a Dev , do you see a problem is the current Sfire situation , 25gh is pointed at us and he is dumping mass quantities of Doge into the wafflepool for BTC using his asic farm. Last count it was over 1.1 billion coins in the past week alone. I can pull up the graphs, But I think you already know about this. Initial acceptance by merchants is not going to consist of true believers of the 1 doge = 1 doge principal . If you look at BTC and Tiger direct , pricing directly matches BTC = fiat. So any principle based on the idea that merchants are going to look to anything but what the coin can be turned into as an aspect of Fiat is ... silly, I knwo the mantra of 1doge = 1 doge sounds nice , but untill we have inter business trading of the currency between them. 1 doge is going to be worth .0003 cents
[–]rnicollReference client dev 4 points 22 hours ago Painfully aware of SFire. Honestly, I'm more worried about the continual drops in BTC/USD pricing. If you follow the price closely, we get further hammered down when BTC dips, so we're getting double the pain. We're losing ground to BTC, and that's not great, but that's about 10% of the total drop we're seeing. I can't do much for BTC though, so lets get back to mining. Okay; merged mining won't fix the price, as far as I can tell. We'd about break-even (I reckon) vs LTC miners dumping DOGE, vs DOGE miners dumping LTC. It would probably massively reduce risk of a 51% attack, but that's all. For that, we take on the risk of any major problems with LTC will also hit us, and as we expand over time it becomes harder to "de-merge" later. Lastly, it would likely trash many of our mining pools, who would be too small to find any blocks, vs LTC miners. Moving to a CPU mining algorithm would probably just hand us to botnets, instead of ASIC farms. I've seen this before, certainly. So lets say we decide to move to a GPU mining algorithm of one sort or another. We still need a stable client we know we can modify, and people report problems with 1.6, so we have to get 1.7 done first. Hence we need testing of 1.7. We then implement a new PoW, and at some point branch. Presuming we don't have any unexpected problems with the branch, or introduce any critical bugs while editing core parts of the code, we make it harder to copy to/from DOGE mining, but if we're still the most profitable coin, people will still mine us (although with GPU farms rather than ASIC). We also inherently accept the environmental cost of all that GPU power. Oh, and we have to remain hopeful that no bright pure maths PhD student finds a way of optimising the hashing algorithm which gives them a huge performance boost over everyone else (essentially acting as a software ASIC). In summary; we're getting to the end of the development period for 1.7 and looking at 1.8 will do, but no answer that's been proposed is clearly superior to all others.
[–]junkyardmessiah 1 point 18 hours ago Well I do thank you for the response, Just I really hope we can move towards an answer abit faster. right now we are in the sub 80's and still dropping in value. I think the fact we are tied to BTC as our peg is another thing that is killing us . we need to be tied directly to Fiat if we stand a chance. I'd rather not have our currency tied to possible future Mt GOX events. it really needs to stand on its own, But again value right now is reflected in fiat. This is a bad situation all the way around . But here is the question . is there ANYTHING the community can do to stop this falling value and turn it around, from the obvious. I have bought all of the coin I can right now and am mining my ass off. I am accepting the coin at my business on small items right now but need to pay rent and they don't take Doge. ... yet I don't want the coin so I can just dump it like Sfire does for BTC/Fiat. Is there a crucial thing each of us can do to change the current stalemate of the deflationary machine that is Waffle or multipools?. Where do we toss our Sabots into the gears of our destruction? I am my wits end , all I can see as a clear winner might be that we need a mixed POW/POS algo with 25% Scrypt, 25% Scrypt-n or scrypt jane, 25% CPU, 25% POS. If such a thing were a possible fix . and the devs need money to develop it, .. will you take a check?
permalinksaveparenteditdeletereply [–]rnicollReference client dev 1 point 11 hours ago runs back to the thread, out of breath Sorry, so many posts, keep losing track. Well, good news to start with, we apparently just jumped back up again. Praying this isn't a dead cat bounce (seriously, that's a term, I'm not making this up). Hoping other devs will chip in on suggestions; my background is trading-heavy, so I'm mostly thinking about things such as whether we can get UPS to accept Dogecoin (so merchants pay shipping costs in Dogecoin without exchanging through). I'm also wondering about seeing if we can pay taxes in Dogecoin, because I know HMRC takes debit cards, and if Dogecoin is cheaper to accept why not... We've also just had a working implementation of merged mining for Litecoin submitted to Github, which I imagine will be the major topic of discussion over the weekend, as obviously it reduces the work for that route by a lot. If anyone has the technical skills, a P2P multipool would be a way of avoiding Wafflepool scenarios by enabling those who want to make immediate profit to hop target without centralising their mining. This is where someone tells me we have one already, of course... Oh, also, you know we're 14 days (give or take) from halvening? So SFire's rewards will halve on the 25th (again, give or take a bit), along with everyone else's? permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply
[–]junkyardmessiah 1 point 6 hours ago Well I can hope things will be better by the next halvening But I suspect the percentage of low level miners will drop off since it just won't be worth it anymore. I suspect that regardless of the halvening his percentage of the % total coins mined will be the same. But there is a rumor that with the profits hes made so far that his goal is 50gh. and he has done some testing https://pools.rapidhash.net/pool/5 As for the sudden jump , A whale bought 101 million last night for his attempt to a pump and dump. I am not expecting much. So lets break it down, it is a simple question , What at present is off the table or is just undoable in time to bring our value up by the 10k block rewards. and what CAN be done by the devs. to me there there is only one thing that will guarantee a price boost and keep people mining. Drop the 5 billion deflationary yearly to 1.5 % or drop it completely, if the coin is too cheap and we cannot keep miners on it it is dead. simple enough. permalinksaveparenteditdeletereply
[–]rnicollReference client dev 1 point 4 hours ago Off the table? Well, we're not going to merge-mine with BTC, fairly certain of that at least! For 25th (halvening); probably most things would need more time, but most changes we could have in testing and potentially released ready for a higher block number, by then. Changing block rewards would need overwhelming support from the community to do. Honestly, I think people would call for our heads if we tried it. Notably, last halvening the price did nearly double in the week or two beforehand. That's part of why we're mostly favouring doing nothing; historically actually things look bad, but do get better. You can also dig into Bitcoin's history for examples of this. Interestingly, someone just submitted a patch for Litecoin merged mining. I'd definitely not want to be the one to make a call that we know will crush whole mining pools, but it means the option's there if it gained real support. As to changing PoW - I'm going to be talking contingencies with other devs tonight, see what we can come up between us. Again, there's mostly concern that if this goes wrong, we can do a lot more damage to the coin than SFire and a halvening is doing... permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply
[–]junkyardmessiah 1 point 2 hours ago Thank you for being frank and honest with us , Let the other Devs Know a weekly update on the front page would be really really helpful for bolstering confidence that there is actual direction to the madness that is Dogecoin A big question here is how do we gauge support? It is all over the place, voting system would be nice. with some protections against bots and nobody can vote with an account younger the 5 days from the time of the vote would be good too. Debate could be held on reddit , voting on on dogcoin.com I think a lot of angst and worry is due to the feeling of not "really " having control of the destiny of dogecoin. That it is up to the devs to make decisions on the smattering of posts that are scattered all over this sub. We need a cohesive way to express our opinions . If you make the reasoned case for block reward changes , you might be surprised by the reaction you get. Please put it to the others that if we could have more interaction and more regular updates it would go well for all of us and inspire confidence . which can also help bring our value up. permalinksaveparenteditdeletereply
[–]rnicollReference client dev 1 point 1 hour ago It's worth keeping in mind we're still just assembling organisational structure. Clients up to 1.5 inclusive were led by the founders, 1.6 was lleti and rog1121, and 1.7 is now leofidus, langerhans and myself. So; we're working on communication with you guys, as soon as we've got it sorted amongst ourselves :) Attempts so far to have go-betweens assist us with communication have given an impression of an isolated elite, so yeah, it's a work in progress. Anyway; yes, there's predictably been extended and expressive discussion for several hours, and we think we've got a least bad solution. I'm getting everyone involved to confirm they're happy with the idea in principal, but it looks like we're going to try beating the multipools at their own game, by building a better multipool which is less hostile to DOGE. That's as much as is concrete so far, I can literally see the conversation progressing in another window, and the other two core devs are both offline anyway. I definitely want to see if I can get a weekly "What we've done, what we've learnt, what we've thought about but didn't do, what you can do to help" blog post or similar, and I may get the first done this weekend (if not, next). There is a hell of a lot happening (for example implementing the Bitcoin payment protocol for Doge, security whitepapers, writing formal specifications to go to the IETF) that people don't see... permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply
[–]junkyardmessiah 1 point 57 minutes ago Okay that is at least something. It is like trying to pull back the curtain of the wizards of doge only to see them scrambling like mad pulling levers and pushing buttons/ I would like to post this discussion we have had in a new post to get it some more visibility if you would be okay with that. I really do hope the next Halvening will show some results. But I think most expected a lot more out of the last one. I think all of us would like to hear about the "least bad" solution, and what it means for the coin.
[–]rnicollReference client dev [score hidden] 43 minutes ago* If you want to see us at work, the #dogecoin-dev channel on Freenode's an excellent idea. I'm there if I'm working, and the other two currently active devs are frequently around too. It's... well, busy, and I can't guarantee you'll see stuff that interests you, but it does let you see what's going on. As to a new post; I'm unfussed. Anything I'm posting I presume I'll come back to discover a few thousand shibes have spotted and suddenly read. That said, because weekends are when I can get my head down and make progress, I'll be less chatty on reddit, fair warning. At the moment everyone in the room seems reasonably happy that the best thing to do is to provide better mining software to pull people such as SFire away from single pools. I think there's also the intent to have the pools generate DOGE by default instead of BTC, but even if that's not something people could work with, we can at least implement much better trading algorithms (that's well within my skillset). That said, others are taking the lead there, I'm going to be focusing on technical documentation; a security specialist is working on guidelines for using cryptocurrency safely (for merchants and similar) with some guidance from myself, and I'm hoping to make a start on formal documentation as soon as the Bitcoin payment protocol stuff is done.
